Running Progress

Postby KimE » Mon Apr 09, 2007 2:51 pm

Well I have decided to take this running business a bit more seriously than just throwing on my trainers and trusting my luck. Seems I always end up with sore muscles, tendons or God knows what else. So I am going to follow the cool running site and see how I go. I figure if I give it a proper go, stick to the guide and stretch properly I will soon know if my legs can handle this or not. So back to basics for me. Feel free to join in with your progress whether you are using the same site or not.

Week 1 - Day 1
60 sec jog/90sec walk for 20 mins

Completed and was happy that my calf didn't throw a wobbly, so yayy. Did a good stretch session before using the stretches suggested on the cool running site as well as some extras for my calves I know it is a weak area for me. I have a stetching DVD which has a nice little warmup before the stretching so I used that to get the muscles warm. Walked for 5 mins before starting the actual session mentioned above. Went very well and although I felt I could have jogged a lot more I stuck strictly to the program as that is half my problem trying too much too soon. Plenty of stretching after as well and I am feeling damn fine!

You sure have Kate as well as reading about people doing fun runs I think that would be great to be able to do.

I have been doing it off and on and I think I just push myself too hard. I go pretty hard in the gym so I can be my own worst enemy. Gotta give it a go.

Good on you Kim! We're at the same stage in the C25K thing.. I have yet to manage three whole running sessions in a week so I haven't moved on from week 1 yet lol! But I think it's important to take it slowly, last thing I want is an injury!

I can't wait to see your progress, I know you'll be nailing the 5km in no time :)

Week 1 - Day 2
60 sec jog/90sec walk for 20 mins

Completed. I have songs set up on my ipod that alternate between 1 mins and 1.5 mins so I don't have to count or watch a clock just jog one song, walk one song. Much easier. First day I felt my calf a bit tingly after the first minute, this time no problem. This stretching business really helps!!

Yeah I think so too, time will tell. Ooops I had my songs set up wrong and was actually doing 1 min then 1 min 50. LOL I set the songs for 1.5 minutes and used 1 min 50 instead of 1 min 30. Set correctly for tomorrow. Can't see it would make too much of a difference.

Week 2 - Day 1
90 sec jog/2 mins walk for 20 min

Completed. It's interesting being back at work as I can't take the time I could when at home but still did a decent stretch before and after of 5 mins each. Legs held up well.
