The dreaded weigh ins....

Postby al83 » Tue Jun 10, 2008 12:57 pm

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr I hate the few days leading up to that weigh in!! It's like for the first half of the week, I can trick myself into thinking I will be ok and then a couple of days before I have to weigh in and I get the panics. Have I exericsed enough? (er, no) have I drunk enough water (er, probably not) have I avoided all temptation (er, does the bottle of champagne on sat night count?)

Anyone have any tricks for getting the dreaded weigh in off my mind???

Get out and go for a walk! Do something proactive about the situation, it is never too late to make an effort to loose weight, even if it doesn't show this time, it will next time. Exercising really helps me take my mind off stuff and it helps cuz you're also doing something constructive to get rid of the problem (weight). If weigh in's are stressing you out that much then maybe take a break from them, or measure yourself this week, or take a progress pic. There are so many ways of measuring your success, and if weighing in doesn't work for you, then find something that does.

Also do you keep record of your intake and amount of exercise for the week? Cus that could help, knowing that you have succeeded in staying within your calorie range, or have done enough exercise, or whatever your goal was for the week.

All the best,
Jane

Also once you get into the swing off things and the number starts going down each week you won't see them as dreaded task. You will be excitedly looking forward to weigh in day then you will have the problem of weighing yourself to much.

Thanks ladies - - that makes a lot of sense really!! I think a good diversion strategy is needed :-) I'm such a good 'justifier' and that is one habit I really need to break & then I'm sure those weigh ins will be much more enjoyable!

Well the second weigh in yesterday and just 0.5kg lost - - but considering I over indulged on champagne on the weekend, so I was pleasantly suprised!

This week's goal - - up the ante & lose 1kg or more in 7 days :-)

Hey congrats on the loss and being pleasantly surprised :)

Hope you have a great week and achieve the results you want, btw are you doing any specific exercise or eating program?

I'm in my 3rd week of the Jenny Craig Program & finding it so good for my portion control - - luckily I'm not too fussy an eater, so I'm finding it quite easy to follow - - it's just giving up my glasses of wine of an evening that is hard! I'm gradually integrating exercise, walking between 2-3 miles a day and starting a toning program as well I can do at home.

3rd (or is it 4th?) weigh in today and I'm really really not confident :-( I got out and got active more this week, but then overcompensated with wine! If I get one right, the other suffers - why can't they both be good at the same time!

Only once a week - - pick a day and stick to it - otherwise you don't really get any kind of true indication...

As much as I hate to admit it I'm a daily weigher :? Although my offical weigh in is on Saturdays so I just have to take Saturdays figure no matter if I was less the day before etc. Personally it gives me more motivation to see the numbers going down or at least staying the same. It also shows when I've had a slip up & makes me less likely to do it again.

On the same note you can't let it ruin your day if you have a crappy weigh in.

Seems when I stress more about the weigh in - - it goes the complete opposite!! I lost 1.2 kgs this week - - the first time I've hit the over 1kg for the week mark and double that of what I lost last week :-)
