Running towards Africa

Postby Africa2013 » Mon Jan 16, 2012 2:27 pm

In 2013 I plan on volunteering at 2 wildlife reserves in South Africa, a Lion park and a wildlife rehabilitation centre. The work at these parks could be quite heavy at times, withs big cats and larger animals such as rhino and zebra to care for, and so I've decided that it's time for me to shape up so that I can get the most out of the trip!

My first fitness goal is to run 5km nonstop using the couch to 5k program
My first weight loss goal is to be 80kg (or at least close to it) by Feb1, when I'm going to see Love Never Dies with my friends.

I started a week ago, so I'll count from then so I get the benefit of the weight-loss so far

Yay! One week on and I've shaved off another kilo! Feels great since my 'realistic' goal for weight loss was to make sure I lost 1 kilo a month every month leading up to my trip, just pushing myself to make a good start before uni begins again. :D Speaking of uni, it seems alot of people are posting a few extra details about themselves as well as their weight info, so just so everyone knows I'm 20yrs old and female :)

Jogging is going well, I'm working up slowly so the first week I did four lots of two minute jogging intervals and nearly died, and now I've started doing five three minute intervals with only 2 minutes recovery between each and I'm still breathing normally at the end! I guess gradual (really gradual  ) increases are the key.

I'm doing 2 degrees at uni (I'm a little indecisive that way), one is a fine arts education course for high school teaching, and the other is a bachelor of Design. It gets a little hectic with 8 years of study being squished into 5, but I'm hoping that I can get myself into a routine for exercisng before I begin 3rd year! If you can do it while doing uni and looking after kids then I really have no excuses :)

Best of luck with the rest of your week,

and Have a happy Australia day everyone!
