The start of a loooooong journey

Postby GoddessInside » Fri Nov 16, 2007 4:15 pm

Hi All !

I really don't know where to begin this intro, so I guess I'll start here .... My name's Helen, Im 29 and married, no children.

I've been overweight all my life. My earliest memory of being weighed was for a science exercise in year 5 where I weighed 68kgs, I'll never forget the sniggers and teasing that I endured. I made a promise to myself that I would lose weight from that day, I broke that promise over and over again.

I have tried everything.... WW, Jenny Craig, Gloria Marshalls, Atkins and what have you...to no avail. I finally built the courage to go to my first appointment at an endocrinology / obesity clinic at a local hospital and have finally gotten the support and attention from medical professionals.

I sit here writing to you at 5'8" and 205.6kgs. I have a BMI of 70 and 56.9% body fat percentage. I am "ready" to lose this weight.
I no longer want to be the "freak" that people look at and laugh at. I have dreams of travelling, having children and most importantly just being healthy.

Ive anticipated that my journey will take close to 2.5 years as I have to lose 135kg's, I have set myself a goal weight of 70kgs. With little mini goals along the way. Slow and steady will win the race.

So here I am, looking for support, idea's and just wanting to chat to people that are in the same position as I am. It's always far more comforting knowing that I'm not alone !

*Hugs* to all :)

Helen

:) It's actually really made me happy today to know that you're doing something about it. You'll be saving your life:D

Just one day at a time, being strong and making the right decision every time you face one. It's a matter of drinking plenty of water, eating good foods - under a certain amount of calories, and getting some physical activity in there. Once you've started you'll be amazed at how easy it is to adapt to this lifestyle. The results will just spur you on and make you feel so incredible. I'm looking forward to sharing your journey on here :D

We all have our days where we slip up, so we're all here to support you :)

Hey Nicky !

I got married in May this year ... I looked terrible didnt look the way I wanted to at all .. I had a gown that would do instead of "THE GOWN" if you know what i mean !

So I cant wait till I get down to goal, as hubby promised me that we will renew our vows and I wear "THE GOWN". I've got photo's up on my facebook of our wedding day.

Which reminds me, I still have to get my before photo's !

Hope everyone is having a great day !

PS Yes that is me in my avatar !

Hi helen and welcome to the forum! Kids can be cruel can't they?
35kg lost. (November 2005 - October 2006)
15kg gained again (as at October 2010).
Back to the drawing board - Let's do this thing!

Just wanted to poke my head in and say hi! :) I noticed you on another topic, so I thought I'd say hi. :)

I know what you mean about being in y5 and being sooooo much bigger than the other kids. I remember in y6 weighing more than our teacher, near twice as much as my friends!

I want you to know though, that I find what you're trying to do very inspiring. You've got a lot to loose, but you're not letting that get you down. You're trying to do it anyway, not letting it beat you. And because of that, you WILL get there. And if you will, maybe I can too. :) There are hard days - sometimes it seems like they're all hard days. But it's DO-ABLE!
