Greetings and Salutations
I stumbled across this website the other day and after perusing it for a few hours I thought it might be useful to join up.
My doctor and I have spent the last 18+ months trying to figure out why I kept gaining weight and despite all efforts of exercise and diet control couldn't lose it. Turns out, after numerous blood tests and whatnot, that I'm insulin resistant and am very close to developing type 2 diabetes.
It's been about 2 months since we found this out, so I have just been re-educating myself on nutrition and paying specific attention to diabetic nutrition and low GI diets etcetera.
My boyfriend and I just bought a treadmill, which is proving to be a massive help as I find I'm not as hesitant to sweat it out in the privacy of my own home while I watch TV or listen to music and it's easier to build a schedule around as I don't have to worry about the open/closing times of a gym.
I guess I'm just hoping that this forum will provide me with somewhere to track my progress, vent, and talk with other people on the same kind of path. I find it easier to talk with people who are actively changing their lives, as opposed to 'friends' who want to sit on my couch complaining about their weight and expressing their 'sympathy' with my plight, whilst digging into a family sized bucket of KFC.
So off I go to poke around the forums some more
