The first week of Al's Journey!

Postby al83 » Mon Jun 02, 2008 2:46 pm

So I have finally decided to do something about my lifestyle & I'm half way into the 1st week!! I've never attempted to lose weight before, have just gradually watched 25kgs creep on since I left school 8 years ago and it's time to do something! I'm going down the Jenny Craig route & so far so good, though I do realise that in my first week that I am possibly looking at it all with immense enthusiasm that might dissipate?

I'm so clueless as to how to increase my activity though - - anyone else find this difficult? I get home after dark and am not really in a position to walk during the day and am not sure I could ever motivate myself to get up and go for a walk before work??

I look forward to sharing my journey with you all & drawing some inspiration from you!

Cheers

Al

Hi Al and welcome to the forum!

Ive done Jenny Craig in the past and its a great way to go for some one who hasnt tried to lose weight before, plus majority of their food is really yummy!!! :D

I was a super lazy person (well actually i still am!!) and i had to force myself to exercise. I find a routine is a great way to go because over time it becomes a habit and you do it automatically. Maybe start out small and get up and do 15mins in the morning and gradually increase it. There is no need to be a gym junkie in your first week! Start out small and work your way up.

All the best with your journey, sing out if you need anything!
Highest Weight - 93kgs
Current Weight - 68.3kgs
Goal Weight - 65kgs

The wise man Stephen King once said - The only way to go on, is to go on. To say 'i can do this' even when you know you cant

You'll find me in the almost there section :)

Thanks Shelbel!!

My sister has been on Jenny Craig for 10 weeks and has lost 12 kgs, so she is the one who suggested I give it a go for my first (and hopefully last!) attempt at shifting the weight! So far, food seems good & since I was a pretty competent cook before (mmm, perhaps TOO competent) I'm able to spice it up with some extra flavour which helps!

Totally agree on the starting small thing - - though I'm just not sure I'll ever be a morning exerciser - fills me with dread!

Hi there al. Just like to welcome you to the forum. How has the first weigh in gone? I am doing Jenny Craig at the moment also, almost at my goal weight. Goodluck with your weight loss.

Well I'm trying not to be negative about this first weigh in.... I lost 600g and really thought I'd gone about double that! But I'm looking at all the positives that have come out of this week and not focusing on that dreaded number each week!

Must must must fit more exercise into my week, I think!

Lauren - my consultant was vague as when i asked her if what I lost was realistic in the first week or under average, she didn't give me much guide at all - - what would you normally tell someone?

Thanks everyone else for your support :-)

Hey Al how are you going so far?

I feel your pain about the scales!! Its like ARGH why can't we have big losses! Lol maybe my brain thinks I'm in the biggest loser house or something :P Its hard, but its a process- I've started a thread in the weigh in section just to track my weight loss so when I'm shaking my fist at the scale I can look back and see that the weight is coming off, slowly but surely- maybe it might help to do something similar? Do you mind me asking where you were overseas? I'm Irish but have inherited the traveling gene from my parents and love hearing about other peoples trips and time overseas.
Hope you have a really good week this week, and look forward to joining you along the weight loss journey!

Yes precisely!! But I'm trying to stay focussed on the bigger picture :-)

I lived in London for 3 years, loved every minute but boy did I stack it on (stodgy food, beer & ZERO activity besides the bicep curls it took to put a drink to my lips - ha ha). I went to Dublin a couple of times during that, thought the Irish were a wicked (as in good, not bad) bunch of people - very good craic!

Well today begins week 3 - I've had a slow start to weightloss - - so far just 1.3kg, but how I look at it is, that is 1.3kg less to lose next week :-) My goal this week is to get out and get active & I know I can hit the 1kg a week mark if I do :-)

Hey Al,
1.3kgs is a great loss, and if new habits are forming then it'll be no time before the kilos are coming off! Hang in there :D
Maybe doing something different would help kickstart weight loss? I know strength training really helps me see the results I'm after, and of course deciding not to have any alcohol helps! :P
What sort of training do you do?
Hope you have a fantastic week!!

What sort of strength training do you do - - gym, PT or self guided?? At the moment, I'm walking & have a very basic strength training program on DVD, it's about a 20 minute work out with light weights.

I am struggling to give up alcohol completely - - I really enjoy and look forward to my glass or two of wine in the evenings!! I have however, cut down to every second day and that's a start!

I'm now into the 4th week, and though I feel so much better, I know I've still got a long way to go! 2.4kg in total lost, but about another 22kg to go!

Hope you're all staying positive!
