Bermuda Babe checks in

Postby Bermuda Babe » Tue Jun 10, 2008 6:55 pm

Hi, I have just found this forum and thought I would introduce myself.

I am an older lady, - actually a grannie although I still think I am not old enough for that title - unfortunately hubbie tends to disagree! :( I used to be a public servant but left nearly three years ago to spend time at home getting myself healthy. It took almost the full three years to achieve that goal - well I certainly hope I have got there by August!

I have been overweight (and certainly morbidly obese)for most of my life. It impacted tremendously but because I really never knew anything different for so long I just thought I was getting older and it was a natural progression - arthritis, diabetes, bad back etc....

I had a 'watershed' period last year which had a profound effect on me and made me reevaluate my life, future plans and goals. I was about to lose something I hadn't placed a lot of value on and realised it WAS important to me. This helped me to focus when I finally chose a weight loss programme and got me through the hard early days.

Week by week I watched the fat slowly disappear. Some weeks I didn't lose much - I remember losing only 50g one week! Was I cranky then :) but each week i did lose and this gave me courage to keep going. Finally came the time when my jeans were falling down in the shopping centre carpark - not only my beloved elasticated waist jeans but also my $20 a pair undies ('cause I had to buy from the specialist shop 'cause nothing else fit). Whohoo - time to get jeans with a waistband and zip and ditch the granny knickers! Mind you, I must have been some sight to behold as I (as discretely as possible) tried to pull everything up so I could walk back to my car!

There are a number of other stories - maybe I will write a book one day...about getting stuck in the kayak...cossie malfunction at the pool....

I'm nearly at the end of my weight loss journey after having shed 87 kgs since April 2007. I still have 7 kgs to go and of course my body is being really resistant to saying farewell to those last few kgs.

I am so much more happier and certainly healthier than I was 14 short months ago. I didn't mean to ramble on so much but thought my experience may give someone a bit of encouragement.
