Hi Carly!

Congratulations on beating bulimia! You must be one very strong person.

For a healthy diet, which is good for weight loss as well as maintaining a healthy weight, make sure that the majority of what you eat is fresh foods - lots of vegetables, some meat (if you eat it) and some fruit. Keep refined carbs (sugar, white breads, pastas, rice etc) to a minimum and cut out all sugary drinks including those horrible vitamin water things. Drink lots of water and some milk every day. Keep other drinks for special occasions only.

Get 30 mins of exercise, 5 times a week. This can be as basic as going for a walk every day, but you can make it as strenuous as you like it. If you want to tone up, I definitely recommend doing strength exercises (weights) at least twice a week. Don't worry about bulking up - you are a girl so that is physically impossible no matter what your friends might tell you. Weights are a fantastic way to get toned up and are excellent for bone growth and density.

Best of luck!

Hi Carly,
Welcome to the forums I sure you will get lots of support here, whether it be about weight loss or anything else. I cant help but feel before you start your weight loss journey you need to relook at your motives of why your looking at doing this.... Not for anyone else but for yourself.
Are you able to give us a little bit more information about yourself? How long has it been since your battle with bulimia? are you focusing on weight loss or a healthier lifestyle? How tall and what do you currently weigh? Are you currently seeing a doctor to help with weight loss/bulimia issues? I couldn't help but notice that on your ticker you have your BMI of 19.3, and wish to get down to 17.4. I believe that your current weight is either the bottom range of healthy or slightly underweight . I don't wish to seem like I am being a nag or anything but I would hate to feel that I am not being responsible in making sure your choices that you make are the healthiest for your body and spirit. If you don't feel comfortable at all posting please feel free to send a personal message if you wish to talk. I have been on both sides of the weight loss fence from being underweight and unhealthly to being obsese and unhealthly. Once again I really want to stress the point that I am not attacking you in any way... I just wish to have all the information we can have,so we can support you in the way that is very best for you. :D
Welcome and hope to hear from you soon

Hahah WOW thank you both of you!!
Okie dokie, question time.
Well, I am seeing a doctor, with mum on board too, and no, im not overly overweight. I am actually going for my black belt in karate this year and in order to achieve the level of health and fitness i need, i need to improve the way i eat.
Also, I have found over recovering, (i was bulimic pretty much all last year and have recently stopped this year, but im still fighting it.) that if i diet i dont want to abuse myself emotionally or make myself sick.

You may know a thing or two about being bulimic, but for me its all about guilt and fear. I can illuminate both by eating healthy and not having to worry about going 'oh dear god what have i done' after eating large amounts of crap. See where im coming from?

Also, im not very tall, so the weight i carry hangs off quite visibly. :\

I guess the bottom line is, this is to both mentally and physically improve my health.
AND THANKS for the replys and in such detail. It means alot :D

If your BMI is 19.3 then you are already under weight and don't need to lose any weight. I suggest you try toning instead.

Welcome again Casey,
Thanks for supplying the extra info :) Looking at the information you gave I am guessing your about 5ft 4inch to have your BMI of 19.3 @ 51kilos. I admire your courage and determination to get healthier, But I must say also that if that is your height then you are already at the bottom of the healthy range for your age weight and height... if you lose the 5kg that you suggested you will fall into the unhealthy underweight range of your BMI, and seeing as you have had a previous battle with bulimia that may cause your medical professionals to take you back to square one of your up hill battle. I understand the frustrations and inner battles of being a young woman in a world that tells you to strive for perfection and doesn't hesitate to point out every flaw you may have, I think ( and this is only my opinion I am not trained or have any qualifications) that you need to stop looking at kilo's and start looking at measurements.... Muscle weighs more that fat (PLEASE REMEMBER THIS!)and you seem like you have a very active lifestyle that not only be great for your heart but builds and tones your muscles. If you truly want to be at the peak level of fitness your body can... be then you need to have a little fat on you to feed your muscles when you have used all the energy in your blood stream. It sounds like you may have a little bit of a distorted view of body weight VS appearance ..... maybe look at some healthy celebs and google their height and weight ... you may be surprised... for example.... drew Barrymore is your height and weighs 57kg and she is considered on of hollywoods hottest people or the trainer michelle on the biggest loser weights 60kg+. kilos really mean nothing in body image... We don't make people jump on scales when we first meet them, No we take people on appearance... and if you look after yourself and do everything in moderation you will be healthy... happy and best of all start to love yourself :) I would love to keep hearing posts from you as you get comfortable in a healthy routine with eating and nutrition and would love to too support you on your journey to being happy with yourself .

Hugs BBgal

Aww thank you :D

I'm not trying to remove alll my body weight, so dont worry. I run 4-5 times a week and do karate 3 times a week, so exercise has never been a problem with the extra weight. So my diet needs improving here and there.

Oh and i think i stuffed up my ticker, because, my doctor took my measurements and weighed me and girls my age and height should be in the 40-55 kilos and maxes out at 60. So he said shedding a few with only improve my health and is not at all dangerous. I have also seen a specialist to make sure. :D

Thank you again guys, you're a heap of help.
