This may be my last chance.

Postby maddy93 » Wed Sep 08, 2010 12:18 pm

My name is Maddy, I am 16 years old and 40kg overweight for my age. I've tried gym memberships, weight watchers, and hundreds of other things, none seem to work. I don't get any support from my family and I want to change, so hopefully someone who reads this will be able to help me through it. I'm on the verge of diabetes and high cholesterol. I'm scared and want to change.

Welcome to the forum, Maddy. Hopefully you'll find a solution here that suits you. It's a pity that your family isn't giving you any support. Can you enlist a few friends to be your cheer squad instead?

Good luck and I look forward to seeing you around the forum!

best regards,
Ali

Hey Maddie,
Most important thing for you is not to give up. Ever.
As a start I would maybe keep a food journal and write down everything you eat.
I didn't realise how much I was eating until I started to go this.
When you write down everything, including the sneaky lollies and biscuits, you can see it in black and white what you really shouldn't be having.
My other advise is to not think of this as a diet. It is a lifestyle change that us bigger people need to maintain forever.
If you try something for a week or two and then go back to bad habits, you will be stuck in the same cycle.
Start with something small (eg replacing soft drink with water) and go from there.
Keep us posted on your progress. Have every faith that you can do it!

Hi Maddy
You have made the first step and you are with like minded people :D As others have said start small, talk to your doctor, it wont happen over night, but with determination and support from here you will do it :D
Is there someone at school that could give you some more personal support of close teacher, mentor or councilor?
Good luck and look forward to seeing your progress
