how did I get to 83kg?

Hi everyone,

I'm here because I have to admit to myself since having a health assessment last week, and the accumulated frustration of not fitting into old clothes (awesome vintage frocks and designer pants that I love!) and finding it hard to find clothes that fit in regular stores, that I've gained more weight over the years than I would like - or could admit until now!!

I've always been aware of my health, and after being vegetarian for nearly 10 years, and vegan for 3 of those, I've always thought I was a pretty healthy eater. I like the natural health path, finding nutrition in the most natural ways possible, and not relying too much on packaged foods. But I've been sharing a car with my partner for a couple of years now, and this has reduced my bike riding significantly, as well as just getting plain lazy with food, and relying a little too much on daily treats (which become welcome distractions, as we can all relate to I'm sure). I was a steady 70 - 73 kg for many years, which was still a little overweight for me at 164cm height, but those extra 10kg that bring me to this point say something really needs to change. I want to wear the clothes I love again, and feel good naked and at the beach!

So I'm glad that this community exists and hopefully I can come here to help me if I fall off the wagon or get de-motivated. I started watching my diet 3 days ago, and I've been going regularly to the gym for a little over a month. I'm aiming to lose 13kg by christmas...

Hi Kirsty and welcome to the forum!
They do sneak up on you hey? Sounds like you know where the problem lies, now it's time to change it. Just think how awesome you're going to feel knowing you are healthier with less fat and better cardiovascular fitness AND you can wear you awesome clothes again!
35kg lost. (November 2005 - October 2006)
15kg gained again (as at October 2010).
