On the wagon and feelin' good :)

Postby HippyJess » Tue Nov 02, 2010 6:19 pm

Hello!
I'm Jess, and am currently a big 'un.
I'm one of thoses typical Oprah Winfrey types. Put it on, take it off, put it on... now I'm taking it off again!
At the moment I am 84kg's. I started my losing at 88kg's on the 9th November 2010.
I'm soooo over being fat, and it was really getting me down of course, so I made changes, and here I am.
I'm a Mum. I have a hubby, son and a daughter plus 2 cats and a Dalmatian.
I'm madly saving for a kayak to help me on my healthy path.
For exercise I've been doing Wii Fit like mad, walking loads and loads and some exercises around the house. I'm hoping to join curves, but I'm still a bit embarrassed and broke right now. You know, Christmas 'round the corner and all of that...

Jess :)

Hi Jess and congratulations on your loss so far!

I always think it's funny that we're embarrassed about going to the gym or people seeing us exercise when it's something we should be proud of!

Hi Metalcharm,
Thanks mate! I'm pretty stoked so far.
Yeah about going to the gym, it's rediculous hey?
At least nowadays you can take your iPod and just block everyone out!

I don't think I could have started exercise if I didn't have my ipod! I washed it a few weeks ago and had to steal my son's one while it dried out for a few days!

I love the idea of the kayak - we have a lake nearby and I thought the same idea but I wondered how often I'd drag it to the lake. I wish I could find a cheap one LOL

Oh no! Did it still work after you dried it out?
My hubby washed his new phone not long ago - totally dead :(
Yeah the kayaking will be soooo fun. You can get some pretty small sized ones nowadays, but you're right. They're bloody expensive!
Hubby and I want one each, but will have to share to begin with. $900 each
Mind you that's with a 10 year warranty, Aussie made etc. There's a place not far from here (Australis) that make their own.
We're right by a lake too :) Best thing is we have a van, so I'll be able to just throw it in the back!

I'm also going to get a kayak when I finally hand my thesis in as a gift to myself. I saw one in Anaconda I think that was an adjustable 1 or 2 person kayak so you get 2 for the price of one - very cool! See if you can find one of those, it might be the answer to the "can't afford two, but hubby and I both want one" dilemma.
35kg lost. (November 2005 - October 2006)
15kg gained again (as at October 2010).
Back to the drawing board - Let's do this thing!

"Reach out and take control of what lands in your lap"

The iPod did survive although not without injury lol. The time is out on it and you have to click a bit harder than you used to but it works so i shouldn't complain. I jumped on the net to get some pointers and a few tips I saw were to not turn it on, don't charge it up and let it dry for days and days. And with the drying put it in a container of rice as it will draw away any moisture.
Might help next time your husband washes his phone! lol

how's your walking going?
I live on a sheep station and we've done a couple of big physical work days so haven't done anything but am off for a walk this arvo. :-)

Hey Metal, you've gotta be stoked with that! Hubby should have googled straight away lol!
The walking's been great thanks, but we've had a few rainy days here lately, so I've just been hitting the Nintendo Wii Fit. I'm going to buy some exercise DVD's in the next couple of weeks so I have a bit of variety :)
Sheep station hey? That's cool! Are you a shearer?
I miss the bush, I grew up in a little hippy town and were were always mucking about in the bush, now I'm living in Wollongong and although it's so much more handy with the kids etc, I miss simplicity...

nah, not a shearer - the palce has been in my other half's family for ever. :)

I like the sound of the DVDs. I have an elliptical mcahine so was using that and the walking but liked the idea of a bit of variety too. Do you have PayTV? There is a good show on the Health channel at 7:30am which I like . .something different everyday and I've recorded some in case I miss it. I'm worried that when it starts getting hotter I'm going to be using that as an excuse to not go so will be good to have something I can do under the airconditioner!!

Wow eleptical trainers are great :) i am thinking of buying more equipment for my home.
i just got a boxing bag and enjoy the cardio aspect and the core strength it gives me.
I think the best thing to do is upload some really good music that makes you feel like movin' and use any exercise you
can. I like to do push ups and stomache crunches in my own home and used to run every day from the city to my house, until i
kept getting people yelling obscene words out at me from there cars, like "show us you tits"and etc...

:/ that is why i prefer to have my own gym at my house. I think even with my ipod ablazing, the words cut deep and made me
so uncomfortable!!
It seems like your progress is going very well. :)

Awesome! I'm picturing this beautiful land, and serenity!
Unfortunately, no we just moved to a way more expensive rental joint and the thing to go was the Austar :(
And how's this for irritating? Before we moved I got rid of every piece of work out equipment we had, out of sheer frustration. We had a home gym, exercise bike, fitness ball, hand weights, those stretchy dealies for toning. All of it :( We sold it to my stepsons mate for only $100. I could almost kill myself for it. It was all like new too...

But what can yo do...

I still haven't bought the DVD's yet, but have worked out which ones I want. Just need a spare $100 now, but fat chance with all my Chrissy shopping yet to be done! Might bite the bullet and do a laybuy next week while the kids are at school :)

Hi Carly,
Some people ar grubs aren't they? Fancy yelling at you out windows! Hope you gave them the forks :)
I'd love to get a boxing bag, they're such fun too. I had one back in the day, years ago.

I'd love to buy an elliptical and a treadmill.... they're just so pricey!

Hey I've lost another 1.5 kg's. So stoked, and so relieved my hard work is paying off! I'm slowly dragging clothes out of my 'I'm too fat for these' box. Yay!

That's great, Jess .. congratulations! I seem to be hovering this week but I know I've done everything right. Oh well. :-)

I got my elliptical dead cheap from deals direct (http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/p/ellipti ... -work-out/) but when I got it it was only about $120 .. it's one of those kinds of sites that if you wait around long enough everything always goes on sale .. or free shipping.

ugh sorry to had to hear horrible comments like that Carly! Don't let the censored get you down!!
