Yep, I'm in the process of losing a once-huge gut. I started by reading all I could about losing weight permanently and safely, then applied it, learning more and refining my techniques as I went. I haven't exercised much other than walking regularly, but my diet has changed radically.
I think the most important change was in the mind - I now have much more discipline, and think about food very different, especially that it is much less associated with creating short-term happiness and fleeting satisfaction.
