Hi all, I'm a 57yo guy who has travelled the weight loss trail a few times over the years. Same old story....manage to get it off but ..well, you know the rest. I have a lovely 18 month old grand-daughter now and want to see her grow up! And I want to see man land on Mars as well. Love all that stuff. I am on meds for cholesterol and high BP, have about 40kg to lose if I want to 'fit' the BMI rules. I'm retired (was /is a musician) and the road ahead just seems so long and difficult. I don't have faith in my staying power but realise I have to find a way. Talking to people here seems a start; to feel involved and not alone in my journey. And I know there are people worse off than me and that I'm not special. Just another story waiting to be told.
Cheers all,

hi semitone. welcome! since you are retired, i think you have all the free time to do your exercise. having a regular exercise can also help you with your cholesterol and high BP. hoping for a good journey of yours...

Welcome Semitone,
Great place to start and the first step among many.
Keep us up to date with your ups and downs. Many post their daily food intake and exercise intake, which we all love to read.....I like to compare what you have done vs my achievement (or lack of for the day).
Look forward to your progress.

Well, starting weight 127.4kg. I'm 185cm so I'm really just too short, as the old joke goes...To reach the 'normal' category of the BMI I need to reach 85kg. Friends tell me that's crazy, but if it's good enough for Roger Federer (same height) it should fit me perfectly. Just can't imagine not lugging around ten extra housebricks, as I am now. I don't consume any shakes, weight loss tabs or liquids; just eat healthy and regularly. That's when I'm in the zone! Other meds (apparently) increase appetite and it would be easy to blame these if I fall off. But I am happy to take all responsibility for everything that passes my lips. Most days are good, some not so. Just like everybody else.

The month is flying by and I'm 5kg down so far. Pretty much protein (from all sources), fruit and vegies incl plenty of garlic, chilli and ginger. No bread, rice, pasta and certainly no added sugar. For some reason my cholesterol has dropped from 6.9 to 3.7 in a few months. Only thing I've added is olive leaf extract and flaxseed oil (Barleans). All seems too good to be true tbh...long way to go yet! But I'm not hungry and manage up to an hour walk a day. But I know that Mr Grumpy is always hovering close by if I do too much or don't eat enough...
