Just saying hello

Postby BubblyMac » Wed Jan 03, 2007 8:05 pm

:) Hello to everyone!

I am from Brisbane, living on the northside of town. I"m getting married in August this year and all my life i've been strugglin with my weight .. have been on every diet you can think of and back again on some. Last year I tried to lose weight again but failed and have gained weight again, topping the scales at my absolute heaviest of 132.80kgs.

My wedding dress is almost a size and a half smaller and I have to lose weight as fast as I can but i'm looking for more motivation from others going through the same battle.

I'm also hoping to keep in contact with as many people as I can to build great friendships, as being largely obese, I don't feel like socialising as I feel too consious of how I look and get nervous poeple are looking at me for my size and then start nervously sweating in my face/I get flustered. So my socialising with other people/making new friends has become so bad that I am now down to no friends, apart from my lovely partner.

I miss girl talks and chatting/hanging out with people who understand or don't care about what size you are/people that are true to themselves.

Anyways, I just wanted to say hello and let you know a bit about myself as i'm new to this.

I know it's crunch time to lose weight and really start exercising or else there'll be no wedding later this year as I won't fit my dress - which is really beautiful.

Having polyocystic ovarian disease, slow thyroid and a curve in my spine, give me lots of back/neck pain and makes it almost twice as hard to lose weight and so easy to gain weight.

And the only way I can have kids (which I really want to) is if I lose all my weight which will help ease my back troubles, will increase my chances of falling pregnant as well. So as you can see, i do have some things to make me motivated but for some reason, I find it so hard to get started or if I do, to keep the motivation even though I know the benefits. Why do I do this?? who knows?! :-)

So anyone that wants to say g'day, drop some support or guidance my way, please do.

Have a great night or day!! :D

Talk soon!

Hiya Larrissa

Welcome to the forums :) :) Congratulations on taking the first step and deciding to lose weight! We're very supportive here and trust me, a lot of "girl talk" goes on :P (Just read my thread in the Daily Pledges about my New Years Pledge - it turned into gossip about the new guy I am seeing!!!)

Good luck, I'm sure you'll do great :)

Hi Larrissa,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Wow, that's two future brides on the forum. As I said in a post to another future bride, there is nothing more motivating than an upcoming wedding. I know, I was dieting like crazy before my big day, and in the end, although I lost some weight, had to accept that I was going to be a larger bride (the second time around)! :( But hey, that's not going to be you, you're going to kick butt, right? Of course you are, and as long as you stick around here, everyone will do their best to support you I'm sure of it. :)

As for the friends issue, I can soooooooooo relate. Most of my friend base has disappeared over the last 2 years, and the only friend I have is my darling hubby.

I am obese, and suffer from hot flushes (although I think mine might be slightly due to the fact that I am in my 40's and drawing nearer to menopause everyday!!!) But I do know only too well how embarrassing it can be. I have a desk fan at work and every now and then I turn it on (even in the middle of winter) and especially after I've come back from walking from one building to the other. And you know, what makes it worse, is not the fact that you perspiring that draws people's attention, it's the fact that they can see from your expression that you're worried about it.

I live in Melbourne, but if you are happy to take on an interstate friend, I'd be happy to be your friend. Oh yeah, and I miss the "girl chats" too!!!

As I said to the other lass trying to slim down for her wedding, stay positive and you'll get there. And I'm sure you too (like all on their special day) will make a beautiful bride.

Hi Larissa. Welcome aboard. Looks like there's a few of us starting out together. I'm getting married in April and am also mid 130's so I understand your predicament. We'll do it together.

Hi there larrissa
my name is kate and im 21 years old. i also have pcos and was told over two years ago that i couldnt have kids without fertility treatment. needless to say i wouldve been about 2 weeks pregnant at the time and now my daughter is here and she just had her 1st birthday! so it is possible. but the dr is right. losing weight will help. i was 81kg when i conceived her. but we cant use pcos as an excuse because plenty of us sufferers have lost weight. best wishes and i hope everything goes well for your weightloss journey.

Hi Larissa,
Welcome to the forums. I am a newcomer to this site as well.
Believe me, these girls are great! It's kind of like talking to yourself when you post something on this site, and then whamo!
One of these wonderful women will post a response that completely blows you away!
And you think, Wow! I can do this! I am ok and I can lose weight with slow steps and positive thinking!

Congratulations on your wedding. I would love to see a pic of your dress!

Good luck with the next few days and weeks as the beginning is always the hardest until you break old habits and commence fresh new healthy ones!

Cheers :P

:D You girls are so great! I'm feeling good about losing weight already. :)

This is my second day of trying to lose weight. Yesterday I had done so well eating right and drinking my 2L of water then I got home and pigged out on some bad food with my partner and had a nice stir fry for dinner. :?: :x

today i'm being good again and drinking all my water and hopefully tonight, my partner and I will go for a walk together. So that'd be good. I've told him to be cruel to be kind this year to help motivate me. But guys are guys... they just don't get some of our female ideas or problems. I think that's why I miss the girl talk.

I'm really looking forward to wearing my wedding dress, it's really nice and a bit different looking. It's a Roz la Klein design. It's ivory colour with pink design all through it. It's gorgous and of course, my favourite colour is pink!! :D So when I can i'll show you a pic.

Pepper - I can totally relate to the desk fan at work thing... I have it off and on all the time during summer/winter. Yeah, it is embarrassing. For sure, would love to chat more with everyone as much as I can.

Serena - definately tell me some more about your upcoming wedding as well and what you are up to with your journey? Or let me know if it's already on the site.

We are getting married then very early next morning, on the plan to Tahiti (Papeete) for a couple of days then continuing onto Los Angeles for almost a week, including Grand Canyon, Disneyland, Universal Studios and then Las Vegas and all the great stuff there and last stop at San Diago. Then back home again after 3 weeks. So this of course is another motivator!! I have never travelled before so this is my first trip overseas.

So if anyone has travelled overthere and can give me some tips/tell me how they enjoyed it there, please let me know. I always wanted to honeymoon in Bora Bora but until recently discovering how expensive it all is - woah!! So my partner and I compromised a stop over in Tahita with a day trip to Bora Bora.

Kate - i'd love to chat to you more about how you overcome your weight and became pregnant. :) My doctor told me years ago i'd struggle to have babies and i'd have to have some surgery or i'd have to adopt. But it wasn't until I read in a Weight Watchers magazine a few years ago of a lady that had the same things as me and lost weight and immediately fell pregnant. I know I won't ever be a size 8 but would love to get down to a size 16-18. I'd be happy with that and I hope that would be enough to have kids. I love kids.

Thank you again everyone for responding so quickly and positively!! Look forward to chatting to you all more and helping each other through this struggling journey. :-)

hi there larrissa

it sounds like a lovely trip. ive never been to the U.S but have done Africa before :) remember to pack lots of underwear and to take your toiletries on the plane! my kuggage got off in a whole other country and i was without my luggage for over 2 weeks! lucky i had my toothbrush and so on with me on the plane in hand luggage!

if you ever want a chat about PCOS let me know. i didnt lose weight at all when i became pregnant it just sort of happened! but weightloss definately helps some people and once you have a baby it really helps the pcos symptoms.

its nice having girly talk and you are right, sometimes guys just dont understand!
