Hi I am new

Postby Bec » Sun Sep 25, 2005 5:29 pm

Hi my name is Bec and I was searching the net today looking for some inspiration/support for my weight loss journey. I have not always been overweight. Before I had kids I was a healthy 68kg and 173cm tall, now days I weigh in at 95 kg. I'm feeling very 'frumpy' and sick of feeling lethargic and unattractive. I have however started on a healthy eating plan and won't some advice on the best way to motivate myself to excercise. Can anyone help. Thanks :(

Hi Bec. Welcome aboard. You have come to the right place for support. It always helps to have other people to talk to who understand what you're going through. Exercise is a tough one isn't it? Once you get into a routine and you're body gets over the initial shock you really start to enjoy exercising. It's good to schedule exercise into your day so you feel like you have to do it. If you wait till you feel like doing it you won't do it at all.

Thanks Serena hope you don't mind me asking but what excersise did you start with. Just that I don't even know where to start. I work 4 days a week and have three children 9, 6 & 4 and my husband works afternoon shift, so finding time and motivation is my weak point.

I have fallen off the exercise wagon so many times it's hard to remember where I started. But I always try to climb back on. Walking is probably the easiest exercise but with young children to look after it might be tough. Gym makes you feel fantastic but it's a pretty big time commitment and the results are fairly slow coming although they're usually lasting. I think probably exercise videos are the way to go. A couple of years ago I lost 30kg doing tae-bo and watching what I ate. Some of the girls have walking videos that they really enjoy and get good results from. Plus with videos you can have a few different sorts and mix it up a little so you don't get bored and they are really convenient - you can still be there when your kids need you or you can do it after they go to bed (which is what I personally would do because I hate people watching me). Some people have exercise bikes or treadmills but that can get expensive. I guess it comes down to what you like really.

Hi Bec, welcome to our happy liffle group. I agree with Serena, seeing that you've a young family you'd probably be better off picking up some exercise DVD's from K-Mart or even hire some from the nearest video store to test run which ones you'd like to later buy.

Alternatively sitting on a lounge chair with your legs over the arm of the chair and doing some crunches (20 at a time until you get used to them) is a good way to start.
If you have a sunken room in your house, you could also do step-ups (great for the calves)
and if you have a couple of cans of in your pantry you could use these as weights and do a few bicep curls.

Hi Bec and Welcome,

The best way to motivate yourself is to log on here  :D

I think the hardest part about excersise is to get into a routine, I can't wait for the weather to stabilize so I can start walking heaps & heaps. When I have lost a bit more then I'll try some other things. :D

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement and support :D I will take all that advise on board. I live behind a football oval so I might just start by doing a few laps around there in the morning and see how that goes. Question how do you put the little weight traker in :?: Thanks guys, and have a great week :!:

Hi Bec, to post a tracker, you just click on one of the below site addresses and follow the given instruction (or likewise you can just click on anyones ticker graph and it will take you there too)
When you get to the end of the instuction if you scroll down you will see your graph typed out in bbCode, HTML code and ezCode.
just copy and paste the bbCode to your forum message, when you click on the submit button your beautiful graph will be visible to all.
