Hi all,

My name's Yolanda, I'm 27 and I have two sproggets.

I live on a farm in the middle of nowhere.. the nearest gym is about 100klms away, so I'd love to hear from anybody else in the same situation.

I quit smoking about 18 months ago (at the time I was 89kgs) and I think I just pretty much ignored my weight during that whole time - too much sitting on my a$$ and eating ridiculous amounts of all the wrong foods. Just plain laziness is at fault for my gain.. nothing else.
When I started out I was at 107kgs a few months ago.. (Well, I think perhaps I was higher than that, as I avoided the scales for about a year before that.)
But I cut out coffee and coke and chocolate etc.. stopped having sugar in my tea.. Switched to skim milk and lite margerine etc .. And just those few changes got me down to about 103kgs.
A few weeks ago I started an excercise diary to keep track of what I was doing, and when.. and that's worked pretty well at keeping me motivated.
Mostly I do swimming - laps of the local pool every day.. Sometimes I walk - I have a large property, so walking to my back fence is far enough for about a 45 minutes workout.

And I have a punching bag that I enjoy :) ..I just put some loud music on and bash it until I'm sweating. lol.. I know I must look awfully silly doing it, so the sprogs aren't allowed to watch. But I always feel great afterwards.

Hi Draco,

I live about 200m from the nearest gym, but cost and 2 bubs and a husband who works 70 hour weeks keep me out of it.

I have been doing excercise DVD's and walking, so will see how that goes. It's so much harder to get the weight on than off isn't it!?

Anyway, good luck with your journey. It sounds like you have already been doing really well, so keep up the good work!!

Hi Yolanda,

Wishing you all the luck you need on your journey.

First of all, congrats on giving up smoking! :lol:

Check out Calorie King, you can track your food and exercise and I have found that it is helping me keep on track. I think it's Lolly who keeps saying about it and it really is useful.

Thats great that you have a large property to walk around, the punching bag must be good for frustrations too!

Hi Draco and welcome to the sure sounds like you don't need a gym at all mate!! You have a lot to occupy yourself with!! Congrats on your weight loss so far and I look forward to reading more in the coming weeks!!

35kg lost. (November 2005 - October 2006)
15kg gained again (as at October 2010).

Hi everybody.. and thanks for the great welcome :)

I'm having a bit of a setback today.. Evil Aunty Flo came to visit this morning, so I'm just feeling BLECH.

I'm determined to still do my exercise and ignore it.. But gawd.. I just wanna crawl back into bed.

How does everybody else cope?

Yeah, I am actually... Aunty Flo never stays long at my place.

I'm pretty chuffed with myself that I didn't miss even one day of exercise too :)
That's usually my problem.. miss one or two days and the motivation just disappears.. This time around I'm determined not to let myself give up on myself. There's no bad day to exercise.

All of the "What does one day matter?" ..."What's oooone little block of chocolate?" and "Who's gonna care if I don't go swimming today?" voices are being systematically squashed.

This is it.. no more screwing about.. I WILL shrink myself!
