Hey guys,

Well, I finally took the plunge and joined a weight loss forum. I've been lurking around for a few days reading different ones, and finally found this one and decided to join coz it's Aussie.

I'm not overweight by any means - 164cm, 57kg, and 24 years old female, but I've had a lot of trouble with yo-yo dieting (bingeing then starving drastically) over the years (have been getting help for this for a number of years now) and just really need some inspiration to stop bingeing. I wouldn't mind losing up to 5 kilos, but really just want to tone up and get control of my eating. I have put on a lot of weight around my belly from a decade of binge eating, and I kinda feel a bit out of control. I haven't been under eating now for a few years, but just bingeing.

So I'm going to make myself accountable here, and am confident that today will be my last ever binge. I CAN DO IT!!! :!: What's more, I will lose weight the healthy way this time, through diet and exercise, not starvation.

Cheers, molligrub.

Hi Molligrub and welcome to the forum.

Exercising and toning up will certainly help you to feeing more self confident and if you are already getting help with the binge eating then that is great. One thing that has been suggested on here before (I'm sure you've already been told this) is to work out why you binge eat as in find what triggers it, maybe keep a diary and then work from there. So trying to work on the root cause rather than the symptom if that makes sense. I am certainly no expert in this and others may have more helpful input than I can give.

All the best on your weightloss journey. :D

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I've been working on the reasons why I binge eat for a long time. A lot of times it's simply self-sabotage. But I also think I'm genuinely frightened of feeling hungry now (after years of on-off anorexia) that the minute I feel a hunger pain I just can't tolerate it, and go and binge.

I also tend to eat more so that others don't suspect that I have a problem with food, because I used to cop a lot of flak when I was dieting, and I became very ashamed.

To make it worse, I do competitive cycling and triathlons (although the exercise is great for me), so I find it hard to get that delicate balance of eating enough to fuel my exercise (especially when riding over 60km), and still lose some weight without losing energy. But I will get there, it's just a matter of taking it day by day and making myself accountable.

Welcome molligrub! I guess I am kinda in the same boat as you - not overweight but wanting to trim down a bit and kick my bad eating habits.

To make your ticker display, I clicked on someone elses ticker and it took me to the tiicker webpage where I could make my own. Then I copied and pasted the 'code' it gave me and put it in my profile. Hope this helps a bit...I'm not that smart with computer thingys.

But anyway, good luck with your goals and hopefully you will gain a lot from this forum (except weight!!!!).

Thanks Nay,

Gosh, I already feel welcome here. I know there are a lot of people who probably think I'm weird for wanting to lose a bit when I'm already at a healthy weight, but I'm glad to know there are others wanting to do the same also. Nice to meet ya!!

Hi molligrub - yes you can do this :)

One of the things that I initially found confronting about this forum was the amount of honesty here which is what I guess the anonymity of the internet affords it. I found it quite liberating. So good on you for taking this major step to get support from another source - you'll find tonnes here and it's all genuine, too :)

I look forward to hearing about your progress.
Just keep moving! And don't be lazy...
