Hello, new here. I found this forum from the main website, through google.

I used to be one of those people that could eat absolutely anything and not put on weight, with no exercise. Over the last year or so, my diet has got worse and I've stacked on a few extra kilos. In fact, I put on 15 in about a year, some of which is good since I got some muscle and I was underweight before, but some is bad. So yeah, looking for a bit of motivation and some tips to lose a bit but keep the muscles, and I thought this forum might be a good place to start.

Hi!

I too just found this site yesterday!

Hope your weight loss goes well and a tip about preserving muscle is to have .8 grams per kilo of your weight per day. eg if you weigh 100kg you need 80 grams of protein per day. BUT remember not to have too much more than this as it can cause kidney damage. I think the upper limit (if you don't already have kidney disease) is 1.5 grams per kilo that you weigh but don't quote me on that!

Also you should have about 100g of carbs a day to prevent muscle being broken down because most functions of the body can run of your fat stores for energy but there are some processes in the brain that need carbs or if it can't get that it will break down protein but it CANNOT run off the broken down fat stores.

welcome to the forum Schteve! Do things sensibly and incorporate exercise a positive dietary changes and you should be fine muscle wise and maybe even improve on it!! Look forward to seeing you around!
35kg lost. (November 2005 - October 2006)
