This week I will not

Drink any wine!

Hubby and I are fairly big drinkers (when I say big - I mean we enjoy a few beers (for him) and a few glasses of chardonnay (for me) per night).

I am on Day 2 of my diet and I will give this diet the ultimate go by not drinking any wine this week to kick start the progress. So far so good.

Alcohol is a toxin. When you consume more than the body can handle (two or more beers) it will grab the toxic molecule and stick it in a fat cell to stop it flowing through the blood stream.

If you want to drop weight, drop the booze for a few months. There are other ways to relax and enjoy a night.

Whatever Dane - You seem to just continually preach about what YOU think. I already know that alcahol is not good for a diet, but if that is my one naughty indulgence for the week, I will have it. I have gone from having 4 glasses of wine a night to 4 glasses per week max. If I want to indulge in those 4 glasses per week, I will.

Everyone has their own ideas of how to relax - I probably don't necessarily agree with yours either.

Wow Kristal,

I must have touched a raw nerve about your drinking. I am really sorry about that. I am glad though to be helping other people in this forum and their PM's and words of encouragement make my day. I do not Preach I just suggest what you drink and stuff in your mouth is up to you and the results speak for themselves. One kind member of this forum suggested I just forget about trying to help those beyond help. Good luck!

Dane, it's not a matter of 'not helping people who are beyond help'. It's offering unsolicited directives where they are neither asked for nor needed. That can get up people's nose after a while. For instance, here you told her not to drink alcohol in a thread devoted to the fact that she was not drinking alcohol this week. She'd already made the decision to stop drinking alcohol to bring about weight loss! That made your advice at best redundant, and at worst self-aggrandisement.

People here don't mind receiving advice. There is an entire section of the forum devoted to advice called 'Ask the mob'. Or people will ask questions in the title of their thread such as 'can I combine drinking with weight loss?' In those instances no-one can fault you for passing on your knowledge. But to tell people what to do when they are posting a pledge and already doing what you've said comes across as very arrogant.

One thing that is probably giving this impression to people is your insistence on putting your entire CV at the bottom of each of your posts. Believe it or not we have other PTs on the forum. We have people studying fitness science. We even have a qualified doctor here. But they don't feel the need to advertise their educational and fitness achievements each time they post. Firstly because advice should speak for itself. If you offer good advice people will come to trust your judgment without a list of TAFE certificates. Secondly they don't list their CV because they don't feel the need to raise themselves up as self-proclaimed authority figures. They come here as equals to support their fellow forum members, not to dictate their every action because they know best.

I'm sure you are genuine in your desire to help people on the forum and that you have a great deal of information that will be useful for people here. People may take a while to get used to your methods of delivery, though, and some may never come around. But at the same time don't dismiss people as 'beyond help' just because they don't like listening to you. Each person here is on their own path to weight loss and most people are very successful at it. They deserve some credit for that.

cheers,
Ali

Thank you very much Ali for your support. You have totally confirmed what I think - that he is extremely arrogant and just trying to get a word in anywhere.

No Dane, I am not beyond help - I am a healthy 66kgs and have cut back on alot of things to get myself to an extremely happy place - I have done this without your judgements and without your "advice"

And you seem to suggest that I have a drinking problem - once again, you don't know every member on here from a bar of soap, so please don't go "suggesting" any of your thoughts about a person.

I agree with Ali, a long list of credit at the bottom of your signiture only suggests to a few of us that you are simply arrogant - it is not impressive and quite frankly the way you have gone about giving advice in a few areas have rubbed others the wrong way (I have bit my tongue until now).

I know this is a forum for weight loss, but quite frankly, some of us are here to just gain the support - not so much the advice. Others may find the advice helpful - each to their own, however if somebody is making a PLEDGE to not do something in their journey - you don't turn around and diss it. Either support it in a friendly way, be nice or don't post at all.

Hes here to advertise himself and his company. Its as simple as that! He has no genuine desire to help or support people, he just wants to preach about how much of an expert he is, I dont think he realises hes not in the right place.
