Learning to run....

Postby Mandie » Mon Mar 19, 2007 9:40 am

Okay, I'm following Kate's brilliant example, and with the help of http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml recommended by Milkyway, I'm going to start running!

I've always wanted to be a runner, to be able to just run for a few kms and ENJOY it would be amazing! It's something that I always thought I would put off until I was at goal weight, or close to goal... but who says I can't do it now? As long as I start slowly and build up gradually at my own pace.. I think I'll be fine!

There is NO time like the present, so I'm going to start with my first run (well, walk/jog) this evening. I'll post here and tell you all how it goes!

Sounds great! Enjoy your walk/jog tonight Mandie :D Just start off slowly and you'll be surprised how quickly you can build it up.

Thanks guys! I wasn't going to go that far, but then I was doing my cool down walk all the endorphins kicked in and I didn't want to go home! So I did an extra bit around the block walking!

I think I'll do the same on Wednesday, and maybe try to do another couple of jog sets in there - will see how I feel. I'm very conscious of taking it slowly, I don't want to get injured!

Thanks for your support :D

That is very wise Mandie!! Jogging is very hard on the ol' body, but by building up and knowing that you can't run a marathon in your first week is the way to go!

That's fantastic Mandie :!: You will be running marathons before you know it. I actually ran the huge length of 3 light poles the other day near the end of my walk. Nearly left my knees back at the first pole. Maybe when I get them back I can do 4

Judy :D

Okay, session number 2 is DONE!

Stats:
5 minute warm up
60 sec jog alternated with 90 sec walk for 35 minutes total

Total Time: 40 minutes
Total Distance: 3.48km

I didn't do the extra lap around the block as I needed to get to work and I didn't want to start too late! I'm fairly proud of my effort though, I managed to keep up the interval stuff past the 20 minutes. I even ran the whole length of my street home! (okay, it takes 1 minute to jog my street... still!)

I'm going to have to fit my next running session in on Friday morning I think - brave the daylight... because in the afternoon I pick up my boyfriend from the airport :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Good on you Mandie! It can be so tempting to not bother when you're time strapped - even when you've got it all planned out, sp snaps for persisting.

Okay - if you can do it, I can. My mission is to get jogging :?
