That's the spirit Dee! The trick is to go really slowly.. if I try to run fast I will never make my whole minute.. I jog so ridiculously slowly at the moment that it's barely faster than a walk.. but it's all about getting it happening! I can slowly increase the jogging time, and then eventually I can start getting faster - I'm in no hurry here!

Already though, I found the second session easier than the first, and I'm sure it will get easier too. And the endorphins really kick in about half way for me, and I find myself jogging with the biggest grin on my face! :D

wow look what ive started! a running group! hehe. hey mandie you are right, slow and steady is the best way to start out. its a lot of pressure on your body to get moving physically more so than your average walking here or there during the day.

yup - my calves have been screaming at me since monday night :P but I'm stretching them heaps and it seems to be okay... I try to run on the grass next to the footpath as much as I can as it's easier on my knees and ankles. And I'm definitely eager to get my new running shoes, I think it will make a big difference!

What a fantastic thread and that site has a lot of great info on running. Wish I knew of that when I started.

Well done Mandie you are doing a great job.

So I did the WATP Walk and Jog today. It's not my fave, but it definately works me hard. I'm going to do this at least 3 times this week - working up to being able to go hit the streets at a jog.

I have committed to doing a fortnightly RPM class (Spin) at the end of May (eek) so I'm trying to get myself much fitter before that, to avoid killing myself.

aaw thanks Kate

My best bud is joining my local gym after Easter, we're gonna do classes together which will be great. Keep each other motivated, and make sure that neither of us back out too often.

Okay, after the boyfriend's visit and then surgery last week, I haven't had a chance to run. So I'm starting again TONIGHT, and I'm going to start with the Week One again...

Found this great website http://www.podcasts.ullreys.net/ where you can download an mp3 with music, and also the guy's voice tells you when to run and when to walk - really useful because I hated having to count the seconds or look at my watch all the time! I'm downloading now, and I'm excited to use it tonight :D I'll post later this evening and let you know how I went!

lol okay I just listened to half of it and it drove me nuts.. I don't particularly like his voice or his music choices.. boo!

So my plan is: Tonight, do my run as normal, counting the seconds and listening to my own music.

And when I get the chance, I'm going to record my own track with MY music, and MY lovely voice telling myself when to run and when to walk...
