I think the 'pledge' page is a great idea, well done. Tomorrow I pledge to wake at 5.30am and walk an hour on my treadmill!

Keep persevering guys,

Well I did what I promised! :D

Last night between 9.45 and 10.45 I spent 40 minutes on my treadmill (walking for 15 minutes and jogging for 25 minutes) and 20 minutes on my exercise bike while watching the baseball (NY Yankees v NY Mets).

This morning I got up and did 45 minutes of weight training and a little stretching.

I have an engagement tonight but plan on doing another 40 minutes on the treadmill afterwards. I also pledge to eat a healthy lunch today, probably a salad sandwich or something similar.

How did you go this morning Hayley? Did you get up at 5.30 and jump on the treadmill?

Ed.

No Ed, I didn't! Was up all night with my toddler who is running high temperatures and has gastro. Will do it tonight before tea though.

I did it! I walked for an hour on treadmill last night! And ... I also woke at 5.30am and did an hour this morning - YAY! (I even managed to run for 2mins, and I'm not a runner!)

How's everyone else going with their pledges?

Well done Hayley!

Starting off running for 2 minutes is great.

Soon you'll be running for 3 minutes, then 5, then 10 and before you know it you'll be doing 30!

I'm not a runner either, but if you keep your speed nice and slow, you'll be amazed at how your fitness improves enough for you to jog longer. I don't think I'll ever be a fast runner, but I don't care, as long as I can run for 30 to 60 minutes without stopping I will be a happy little camper.

Tonight I'm going to spend 40 minutes on the treadmill and 20 minutes on the bike again.

I'll post confirmation first thing in the morning.

Until then...
Ed

Thanks for your support. I woke early again this morning and did another hour on treadmill. I could only run for about 1 minute 40 before I felt completely exhausted - never mind. I guess it's my body getting used to exercise. I'll try for a 2 minute run in the morning when I do my walk again.

Do you find you get better results by mixing treadmill and bike? Or do you do that so you don;t get bored?

Bye for now, I'll post again tomorrow evening :D

Its a bit of both really.

An hour on the treadmill can be a long time and jumping on the bike helps mix it up and I think you get better results because you're working the muscles differently and forcing the body to adjust.

I treat the 20 minutes on the bike after 40 minutes jogging on the treadmill like an extended cool-down that still has me burning calories.

I also want to get to the point where I can spend 30 to 60 minutes on the bike at one time (not necessarily after spending the same amount of time on the treadmill!), but I get a numb backside if I stay on it for more than about 25 minutes.

So in one respect I'm kinda building up my time on the bike slowly and letting my body get used to it (my exercise bike is one of those spin cycles that they use in spinning classes at gyms so has a similar seating position to a road-racing bike).

Once I'm confortably and consistantly doing the 20 minutes, I'll up the time to 25 minutes, then 30, etc.
Scott
