TIP #1 THINK AHEAD

Set 20 minutes aside each week for planning your meals. It will save time standing in front of the fridge or your kitchen cupboard deciding what to eat- and it will be kinder on your waistline.

TIP #2 PLAY THE 'WAIT AND SEE' GAME

It often takes time for your stomach to send the right signals to your brain to show you're full. Savour your meal and slow down your eating pace. If you've just eaten a plate of food and you're still not sure if you've had enough, take a break. Go away and do something for 20 minutes and then reassess if you are still hungry.

TIP #3 FILL UP WITHOUT FILLING OUT

Research shows that people tend to eat a similar weight of food
each day- about 2 kg. When you eat low density foods that are high in fibre and water and low in fat, you can fill up without consuming many kilojoules. For example, take the edge off your appetite by starting main meals with vegetable soup or garden salad with no-oil dressing.

TIP #4 COOK SMART

Use cooking spray instead of fat for frying, roasting and grilling. To enjoy your favourite roast vegies, spray sparingly with oil and use a small amount of balsamic vinegar.

Thanks for the tips Kate... keep them coming :D

Coincidentally I bought cooking spray yesterday! The first time I've had oil of any kind in my house :D

Also think I'm gonna wait 20 mins after eating dinner before launching into dessert etc... normally I just eat it right away without even thinking. It'd be great to wait a while for it. Who knows, I may decide that I'm too full for dessert! Yeah right

Sarah - So that I'm not eating dessert straight after dinner I make sure I go and have a shower before I have something else to eat (I freeze diet yoghurts and have them as desserts a lot. They're awesome cos they take forever to eat!!). Usually mum is already in the shower so I have to wait at least 10 mins before I can have my own shower! Works for me!

TIP #5 DOUBLE UP AND HALVE THE EFFORT

Make an extra portion at night so you can have something for lunch the next day. Or freeze it for an instant healthy frozen meal later in the week.

TIP #6 INDULGE IN 'ME' TIME

If you tend to eat when you are bored, then why not have some quality 'me' time. Enjoy a nice bubble bath, lay on the lounge with a good book, do some scrapbooking (you shouldnt have food or drink around photos and quality paper anyway!) or really spend some time with your kids. Get down to their level and play. Before you know it those cravings would have disappeared.

HHH I tried this one last night Kate - ended up teaching Nathan and Goof to play Texas Holdem censored - the funniest time ever :D

And then I went to bed with my glass of water - no desert for me last night after that blowout.
Every day I am getting thinner and thinner.....
