Sarah's Food Diary 21/8 - 27/8

Postby SarahC » Sun Aug 20, 2006 8:54 pm

OK... I've decided to challenge myself to the 7-day kickstart / soup diet. The fridge is stocked and I'm ready to go!

In the past, the only diet that I have tried was the Blackmore's 10-Day detox diet. Since I'm basically vegan, I didn't really find this diet much of a challenge, as I didn't have to cut out or add that many foods. It was just the caffeine that I missed :(

Please don't ask why I'm doing this! I don't expect to lose that much weight in a week (I don't have that much to lose :o ). I hope to gain some discipline into my eating. Usually I make my own rules for myself as to what I will and won't eat... and five minutes later I have broken my own rule! The more I tell myself I can't have something, the more I want it

So, it will be good to see how I get on with someone, other than myself, setting the ground rules :D

Posting all my food on here for the week will keep me honest 8)

Day 1: Soup & Fruit

0500 Orange
0800 Fruit Salad
0930 Apple
1130 Soup
1400 Strawberries & Honeydew Melon
ACT Energy Drink *
Sugar free lollies x2 *
1500 Pear
1730 Soup, Strawberries
2100 1/2 Melon, Apple

Made it to the end of the day - yay! Felt pretty tired today though, and a bit lightheaded and queasy. I don't think my body is used to eating such a small amount of food :(

My weight this morning was 53.5kg... I'll check it again at the end of the week :)

Day 2: Soup & Veggies

0500 Carrot
0730 Mushrooms w/ capsicum & tomato
0930 Veg Sticks (carrot, celery, beans) w/ hommous
Sugar free lollies, ACT drink *
1130 Diet Soup
1500 Velish Pumpkin Soup (it's all veg so guess it's ok :? )
1700 Soy yoghurt (treat :) )
Agel FIT, Lite Cranberry juice *
1830 Salad
2000 Steamed Veg

Had a shocker of a day today. I was so tired that I had to go home sick from work  Ended up going to bed for a couple of hours in the afternoon, and actually slept, which is very unusual for me

Today has to be the hardest of all for me, as I love my fruit so it was hard not to have it! There's a bit of sugar in fruit, so maybe my blood sugar got a bit low today... if I feel as bad tomorrow as I did today I might need to go out and get some bread or lollies or something :(

The items I marked with a * might not be strictly within the rules, but the calories are so small that I doubt it makes a difference (just 400 kJ or 50 Cal).

I've tried a similar type of diet in the past. I found I got really tired if I did any exercise and I had no energy most of the time. I was doing this for over a month, though. For a week it hopefully won't be too bad.

Hi Garfield! Wow, a whole month, that must have been hard  It's a horrible feeling having no energy. I find that a bit of excercise helps to perk me up, at least temporarily, as it gets the adrenalin going :)

Day 3: Soup & Fruit & Veg

0500 Orange
0800 Fruit Salad
0930 Apple
Sugar free lollies, Agel FIT *
1130 Diet Soup
1400 Pear, Light Cranberry Juice
1500 Veg Sticks w/ Hommous
1600 Fruit Cake (the tiniest piece you have ever seen... I had a bad headache, and it was just there!)*
1730 Diet Soup
2000 More diet soup (made some more tonight :) )
2100 Melon

Feeling way better today than yesterday, thank goodness! Well, except for the last couple of hours of work when I had a horrible headache. Somehow it magically disappeared after I came home and had something to eat... funny about that :P

Day 4: Soup & Banana Smoothies

0500 Banana
0800 Banana Smoothie w/ Soy protein, Soy milk & Fibre
0930 Apple
Agel FIT, Sugar free lollies x2
1100 Diet soup
1130 Lite Soy milk
1400 Banana
1500 Fruit Salad
ACT Energy Drink
1800 Diet Soup, Soy Yoghurt
2030 Kiwi fruit, Melon, Chocolatte

Yay, 4 days down, 3 to go! A lot more energy today and not too hungry, which was great. I have ended up with horrible constipation though, and have had major tummy cramping all day, starting in the early hours of this morning (woke me up twice  ). Poor me, I was a mess at the gym this morning, almost doubling over on the treadmill

Couldn't drink as much water as usual today as the coldness seemed to make stabbing pains... still had well over 2 litres though, plus I managed a couple of peppermint teas 8)

Day 5: Soup, Tofu & Tomatoes

0001 Tofu
0530 Bran Plus w/ Soy milk
0730 Mushrooms & Tomatoes
0830 Apple
Sugar free lollies x3, Agel FIT & EXO
1030 Carrot & Celery sticks
1130 Diet Soup
1400 Pear
ACT Energy Drink
1630 Salad
1800 Diet Soup
2000 Steam Veg w/ Tomatoes, Kiwi fruit

Yesterday's problem very well resolved today, and feeling much better! Way more energy today, especially considering I only got 4 hours sleep last night :o

As I couldn't sleep, I got really hungry and ended up eating the tofu that I was going to have tonight. Oh well.. and thought it would be an idea to have some bran for breakfast even though it's not really part of the diet... (couldn't stomach the tomatoes that I had planned!)

Got through about 3L of water, and 4 tomatoes... I now hate tomatoes

Day 6: Tofu, Soup & Green Veg

0700 Tofu & Mushrooms, Apple & Banana
1100 Dates
1230 Diet Soup
1530 Fruit Salad
1730 Green Salad
1830 Tofu & Steamed Veg
1930 Nutrisoy Tofu Dessert, Strawberries, Diet Jelly

I had a pretty good day on Saturday; had heaps of energy in the morning and did about 2 hours work in the gym. May have worked a bit too hard though as I was completely stuffed by night time :(

Day 7: Brown Rice, Soup, Fruit & Veg

0700 Brown Rice Flakes w/ Soy milk, Banana, Dates
0930 Apple
1030 Orange
1300 Diet Soup
1330 Diet Jelly, Strawberries
1800 Diet Soup, Soy Icecream *
2030 Fruit Cake (weight watchers recipe)*, Choc-coated ginger *
2200 Apple, Melon

Found it a little hard to stick to the diet on the last night. I was at my parents' place and surrounded by tempting foods! I have no bad foods in my house at all, so when I go over there, it is like Christmas

Did my last weigh in on Sunday morning.... final result 52.1kg, down from 53.5kg at the start of the week. So, looks like a total loss of 1.4kg :D

Thanks Kim :D

I was glad to finish the week, even though I caved a bit at the end. My weight has come up a bit in the last few days, but I just blame it on the scales! I know that I feel better and my clothes are becoming looser, which is the main thing 8)
