I gave up the pepsi max on the 8th of january, it is now the 20th and I am still going strong, how is every one else going????? . And it has saved me money, I put my hubby on a no soft drink diet too, he used to only drink soft drink now he is starting to drink water, and he says he is feeling great! He hopes its the water doing it.

Well since the 5th I've only had one can of coke zero. I gave in on Friday as I needed a caffeine hit but I'm happy that I only stuck to one. I was going to let myself have it as an occassional treat when I go to the movies but I went on Saturday and I didn't even feel like it, I just had water.

Today my boss who last year had to take 2 months+ off work, followed by part time return and is still recovering months after due to suffering from demyelination and swelling of the brain was provided by her doctor's clinic with a study on diet softdrinks and artificial sweeteners and how high consumption has been linked to demyelination. She had to be hospitalised several times and put on steroids and a hundred and one drugs and put on 30 kilos in around 2-3 weeks from everything. The doctor's still haven't determined the cause. But the research they provided her today suggests that her high consumption of diet drinks may have been a factor.

Haven't got time to do any thorough research myself right now but I found this website which had some 'interesting' points
http://www.wnho.net/aspartame_brain_damage.htm

I think whilst the research is still out (or most likely supressed) I'm going to err on the side of caution and continue to not drink the stuff.

http://www.foodstandards.gov.au/_srcfil ... _feb04.pdf

its all pretty confusing... just looked up the above link after reading what sweetners are added to Diet Rite products which were 950,952 and 952...

951 (not in the Diet Rite drinks afaik) is the one that includes ASPARTAME.

I think this problem is only the tip of the iceberg though... no doubt these sweetners and preservatives are prevelent in most processed foods we buy..

I just briefly looked at one of the links as I wasn't really sure what this thread was all about...and now I'm really upset!!

I LOVE Coke Zero...it's my one sweet treat every day. I thought I was doing well condidering I drink maybe 2 cups of tea a day, no coffee, I don't smoke, eat heaps of fruit and veg and exercise every day...

How depressing....

Hi everyone,

I had previously thrown in the towel with this challenge, but after a dose of gastro recently (sorry) I haven't had any diet drink for 6 days :D. This maybe the kick start I needed.

Opal - thanks for the link. I look around and almost EVERYONE drinks 'diet' drinks, it's really quite scary. I've read studies into sweetners before, passed on to me by a pregnant friend who was told by her OB to avoid phenylalanine like the plague .

Today I bought out most of woolies 'mineral waters' and will not be looking back. Thanks Lane

I have given up on the soft drink, when I crave that something sweet I reach for a small glass of juice but 24 hours a day I am clinging to my SUPER PUMP haha! It takes alot to get rid of the softies as my parents used to drink only soft drink and my partner still drinks soft drink all the time. Ha he says water tastes gross. I dont get it coz water doesn't taste but thats his issue hey?

Ok I know I need to jump on the bandwagon here!! Diet Coke, coffee is my weakness!!I'd have Caffiene drip fed if I could! My Bad!!
The pretend sugar is my vice as well - equal!
One thing at a time!!
I reckon this will be harder than when I had to get the dummy off my 7month baby!!
If you can do it, so can I!!!
Need to wean off slowly otherwise I'll be a raving lunatic by sundown!
how is it going anyway??

So as soon as I have some drama I start making up excuses to do things I know I shouldn't, I've fallen off the wagon on this. I've had one a day for the past week since I switched projects and have been working stupid hours. Not as bad as the 4-5 a day I was having at my worst.

No coke this week!

giving up the soft drinks will be soooo hard!
i used to drink more soft drinks than i did water,
but lately, i've been drinking alot more water than anything else!
i don't buy soft drinks so the temptations not there at home.
but when i'm out it's hard to resist.
i've given up everything else but lemonade so far!
but i mainly only drink lemonade with my vodka raspberries when i'm out..
so the question is.. can i give up alcohol?
it'll be hard if i'm so used to drinking every weekend.. and by weekends i mean from wednesday nights.
argh bad habits!
how bad is alcohol in the weight loss process anyways?
do i have to give up.. completely? i don't know if i can do it..
