WHO WANTS TO LOSE 10KGS BY XMAS?!

Postby kangagirl » Thu Nov 06, 2008 12:31 am

Hi all,

I know there are heaps of similar threads going at the moment, but I wanted to be held accountable to spur me on! I am starting off at 80kg and want to aim for 70kg by xmas. I only joined this forum a few days ago but have met a number of wonderful people and read heaps of awesome stories I could relate too! My main problem is the habit of always wanting to eat (not necessarily junk food, but also healthy food) just to feel content and the need to feel "full" and avoide being hungry. I also eat when bored as a form of *entertainment* and of course I buy too much food & worry that somehow food will run out and will NEVER, EVER re-appear if I don't eat it there and then!!!....and ashamed  to admit that I can be greedy with food too (!). I just always seem to feel hungry and falsely believe I am 'treating myself' special if I eat (think this goes back to my somewhat deprived childhood where food was probably the main solace and the one thing I got highly praised for "what a good girl to EAT ALL HER FOOD!" - and thereby reinforcing more eating - but that's another thread!)

anyways, if u want to join me in this challenge, pls come on along for the ride! I promise u will enjoy the destination!
Together, we WILL DO IT.

Me too!
I would also like to be down to double figures by Christmas!
Just started this week at 108kgs. Hope to be below 100 by Christmas!
I work from home on my on-line business so I lead a fairly sedantary life-style.
I've just turned 60 and live on my own.
I used to walk each morning but have developed a sore knee so now find it too painful to walk for too long.
BUT - I've found a solution!
I've moved a TV into the office and every time there is an ad on I get up and start exercising!
I have a step to step up and down on during the ad. I can do this 60 times during the ad break!
So each morning I do the step exercises - about 10 sets of 60!
ALSO - I went to Big W and bought myself some hand-weights.
I use these for arm exercises which I do during the afternoon.
Each exercise is repeated 20 times and I try to do 10 sets of these also.
During the evening, whenever the ads are on TV, I jump up and using my hand-weights to do bending exercises, repeating 20 times!
This is a new exercise for me so I'm still working up to doing 10 sets of this as well.

I KNOW what to eat and what to avoid so try not to have the wrong food in the house.
I have 6 grandchildren aged from 4 to 12 and want to be able to spend more quality time with them, without them being ashamed of their big, fat Grandma!

I have been to a counsellor to work out why I have "chosen" to be overweight! It's all related to past relationship problems!
Now, I've decided I will "get real" and start looking after myself again so that I can be proud of myself again!

I'm looking for some support if there's anyone out there whose willing to swap stories and achievements.

IT'S TIME TO "GET REAL"! :D

Welcome starr22, conscientia and Gazzagal!! So glad to see you here - we are all here to support each other and I do love the personal stories of how people are achieving their goal...Gazzagal, that is fantastic that you are doing the exercises and bought the weights...

Btw, sorry for delay in response, I've had log-in problems and had to rejoin with a new username (kangagirl2) - but it's still me (kangagirl!!) :D

As for me and how I am going about this.... I mainly started with dieting, eating less and more healthy foods, but girls - there's no way around it, we HAVE to exercise if we really want to budge the fat, and that is what I am really having to accept. For some-one who used to exercise by cycling 240km per week and going to the gym etc, it is no wonder I have put on so much weight and so my plan has to involve exercise as much as I hoped I could avoid it as I am so busy with 2 little ones under 3.

So, this week I have started with 50 situps per day in the morning. I'm also doing yoga stretches (wont burn many calories but relaxes you, brings you in tune with respecting yr body), and I also plan to buy an exercise bike and I like Gazzagal's idea of home-weights. MUSCLE BURNS MORE FAT.

How are you going Starr22 and conscientia??!! Tell us, we can draw inspiration from each others' stories...

Hi girls :D

So how is everybody going this week? I'm doing pretty well, but am going out for dinner tonight  Gosh I hope I can controll myself  we are going to an all you can eat place  so wish me luck :)

I am really going to try and get some more execise in, I think 20min twice a day to start with, what'd you think? I was naughty and weighed myself this morning  (I'm trying to only weigh once a week). But it was REALLY good :D :D 80.7kg (started at 81.6kg) mind you, you do weigh less in the morning....but it's still good

Glad to see a few people doing this, it's good to get regular support :D

good work star, but i don't think i'd be brave enuf to go to an "all you can eat" place - too tempting for me, 20mins per day good, but i'd go for 30mins as i read somewhere that yr body starts to work on its own fat deposits AFTER 20mins so if u do more than 20mins fat will start to burn...good luck with 2nite's dinner.

OMG, ok I kinda blew the healthy eating tonight  ...but it's ok, I'm just going to pick myself up and be good from now on :P

I'm so annoyed with myself

So here it is...I had: Cheese toast/bread(waaay too much  ), potatobake, small piece of steak, little bit of mashed potato, 2 prawns and chocolate mousse

I'm hoping one yummy meal won't do too much damage!

Kangagirl, just a question I see u have a ticker, just wondering how to move the weight thing down on it. do you know??

don't feel bad star, what you ate actually doesn't sound that bad and you will always have those moments, as long as they are occassional.

yes, i thought the ticker updated itself but i've gone back there to the ticker page and put in the new weights (bottom half of screen), only took a second, so i think that's how you do it.

good luck..i was naughty just then too and had a milo-mousse for dessert cos i still feel hungry after dinner of fish and rice which i cooked for the family, but am now having a really nice Cranberry, Raspberry and Strawberry Herbal Tea which smells divine and makes me feel I am indulging without the calories  , and only a couple of tbs of low-fat cottage-cheese!

Only thing is I have been lazy with exercise, but have managed to lose a kg this week due to much less food.
KEEP UP YOUR SPIRITS. You are not that far from your goal.

Hello all
Tomorrow is weigh-in day so please wish me luck with my first week!

Remember, I started at 108kg - hoping to be down to 90-something by Christmas.

To provide a visual boost for my exercises, I have done up an EXERCISE chart on Excel showing the date down the side for the next 12 weeks, then I've put my 3 different sets of exercies along the top (Steps, Arm Weights, Bends with weights).

Each time I complete a set of 20 I put a 1 in the appropriate box then when I've reached 5 sets I put a slash through the former 1111's so I know that I've completed 5 sets of 20.

I aim to complete 10 sets of all 3 exercises during each day THOUGH I have allowed myself some slack during the weekend for socialising. There's still time during periods of watching TV to complete some exercises.

Using this EXERCISE CHART I'm able to pat myself on the back each evening when going to bed, as opposed to previously feeling mad with myself for doing nothing prior to this challenge we are all involved in.

So, hopefully I've been able to inspire some more of you to find a way to exercise as there's NO WAY you can achieve weight loss and KEEP IT OFF without committing yourself to regular exercise.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!

PS - How do you insert that "TICKER" thing you are so clever to be using?
