Quit Smoking Challenge

Postby Lolly » Mon Feb 12, 2007 3:43 pm

Okies, I am biting the bullet and quiting tomorrow - tonight before bed will be my last ciggie (for 15 mins - using Marys little technique).

I have lozenges here etc, and I am motivated - a friend of mine on another forum is joining me as well.

Any takers to join in my challenge?

Oh, Judy, don't tell Mum, I want to surprise her :D

Simmy the little technique is to tell yourself when a craving hits that you have not given up forever, just the next 15 mins and keep extending it until the craving is gone - great idea and I think I can get my head around it.

Thanks Lolly, I do remember reading that post after re-reading it! I wish you all the very best in quitting. I know how hard it can be, but also how rewarding (have previously quit for 6 months) once you achieve it.

Simmy I didn't smoke for 3 years at one stage - was most disappointed when I started again - and that is when the weight gain started etc because I didn't feel like exercising etc.

I am awake, and have had my nicobate lozenge and some water to wash it down (they give me the hiccups). I just need to face my first challenge this morning and get the boys out of bed and ready for school without stressing out at them.....

Lolly I am overjoyed that you bit the bullet. :D I won't tell Mum, but she is going to be sus when you don't pull out the ashtray with your cuppa when you are here. Maybe I should just leave some old yucky buts in it, and she will think that you had one!

I slipped up

I got really stressed at work today, I didn't have time for a lozenge and for the hiccups to disappear before I got back on the phone and had a ciggie - never mind, I will get there.

Jump straight back on that wagon. :!: Maybe you could plan when you are going to take the lozenges if they give you the hiccups.

You are doing well. I s'pose you can think of it like the weightloss - it's like eating a bit of choccie :)

oh good luck!!

Its been nearly 2 years since I quit.

I went cold turkey and it was hard but I stuck it out!!

My main reasoning was that my boyfriend at the time (my husband now) wasn't a smoker. So everytime I wanted one I thought about him!!

Good luck with the quit Lolly...I'm sure you can do it...I can honestly say it's the best thing I ever did. It'll really help with the weight loss too 'cos you can do more exercise

There is a forum like this one for quitters if you need some extra help...although it's based in the US so there aren't a lot of people online when you're likely to be online...but I did find it helpful sometimes...it's called quitnet at http:///www.quitnet.com. There are lots of parts of the site accessible for free and i never signed up for their paid/premium service.

I don't know if this link will work or not but here's a link to a list I wrote back in the early days of my quit...things to do instead of lighting up...I reckon I did almost all of 'em at one time or other

Cheers, Mary

If I could find a ticker for measurements it would say I'm on the way from a waist measurement of 134cm to one of 70cm (currently at 129cm)
