Hi Becs depends exactly what units of measurement your 'pint' were but the most you would have had with eight beers is about 1500 calories so its not the end of the world... and remember beer has no actual fat content so its mainly carbs you've added. Problem is when we drink twofold... firstly the alcohol takes so long to be broken down that other foods basically get stored away especially if they are excessive and secondly when we drink alcohol we normally eat all the wrong types of foods because our resistance is weaker.
So basically it boils down to what you ate with that alcohol and secondly today (the day after) try to compensate by eating healthier and trying to do a bit more exercise.
Beer drinking over twenty five years or so was the over riding factor for my gradual weight gain over the years... but once you know the pitfalls its easier to overcome some of them... if I'm drinking now I budget for the extra calories during the week and make sure I eat well (and healthily) before I drink so that I won't binge on rubbish foods while I'm drinking. Also the next day I try to do a bit more exercise to compensate...
If we educate ourselves a bit better then its possible to still enjoy a social drink and not have it overly affect our dietry programmes. Hope this helps.
