apparent self sabotage!

Postby boondoggle » Thu Mar 13, 2008 10:11 pm

argh!!!

i am falling into my weird dieting habbits...which involve no dieting at all!! it seems every time i start trying to loose weight i go into this strange automatic mode. ill have a healthy breakfast...healthy snack...and then completely fall off the rails!! this has nothing to do with hunger, i rearly feel hungry when i start to eat badly. its like i have this undieing urge to stuff up! this is probably the millionth diet i have been on, and its like my brain is so sick of them that it tries to pull the carpet from under my feet. i have learnt soooo much over the years about diets, wat feels good for me etc. finaly i feel i know exactly wat to do, but im burnt out! this would be all very well, but i cannot except the weight i am at now, aside from the fact that its unhealthy!!!

i just need to get my head together and loose this weight, because i have had the same thing at the top of my goals list for the past 5 years and im over it!

hope every one else is doing well!! :)

I know exactly where you are coming from Bianca. I do (and have done for most of my adult life) exactly the same thing. It is frustrating and a very hard habit to break, because it is psychological not physical. I try to do something else when the urge strikes. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It also helps if I am around other people, because I hate being seen self-sabotaging my eating plan. Chin up.

Well if you are educated in as much as you know what to do I revok you are part of the way there... fortunately I've got lots of willpower and determination... my problem in the past has been lack of education... not really understanding how my body worked, what fuelled it and how to lose weight and more importantly how to keep it off... so in that respect believe me you are lucky...

I've said since l started... to succeed you need 1% desire, 33% education, 33% commitment and determination and 33% just plain hard work... you have the first 34% so its a matter of channeling the other 66%

Only you can make it happen, try setting some targets, set a start date and stick to it... use this forum, get involved in some of the challenges on here, I'm convinced they work and help motivate... if you get bored then come on here of an evening, l know it helps me, l'm certainly noy hungry but bored sometimes that it just seems as though it takes forever... I saw you had 33 kilos to lose, well l had about similar when l started and five months later l'm about six kilos from goal so it does pass...

I can't really add much to that, as l say its each to themself... sorry if l've come over all preachy, that wasn't my intention, just wabt to pass on some encouragement and advice... good luck 8)

Go John, you're a real motivator!! I like the way you think. Its so simple when you put it like that.

Bianca I hope Johns words help you too. Seriously this website has helped me keep on track (except the pizza I ate last night but lets not get into that), jump on & read some threads, post some replies when ever you're bored or feel tempted to eat bad stuff.

Chin up & I look forward to reading your progress :D

Thanks.. it's not easy otherwise everyone would be walking around thin and fantastic but it really is a matter of controlling what you consume and what you expend including exercise... I'm a bit of a number cruncher most of the time anyway  so knowing the science of it all has been a bonus... it's the temptation and boredom aspects that are the killer then but you just have to have that willpower... say no to yourself, dont buy them goodies, especially if you can't trust yourself (like me believe it or not  - evens treats sometimes I'll wanna eat the bag of licorice even though l promise myself two peices a day) so have some ground rules for yourself and stick to your plans..

Oh John I know what you mean about the self control & wanting to eat all your treats in one go! I can't control myself sometimes so now I take precautionary action first. When I do the weekly shopping I get out all my snacks & treats & divide them into "serves" & put them into zip lock bags. That way if I want to eat something I stop after 1 serve or I have to make a concious effort to get more & thats when willpower takes over & stops me.

What a great idea. We should all incorporate it. Mind you, I would go back for my little zip lock bag only to find it consumed by the kiddies! Maybe I should hide them *sigh*
