Christmas breaks?

Postby brigette_bear » Tue Dec 16, 2008 11:24 am

Hi all!

As we all know Christmas is coming up! yay! and apart from it being a big time for presents it is also a big time for deliciously unhealthy food.... I was wondering if anyone had any plans for throwing away the diet for that day only?

I mean I haven't caved at all yet granted I've only been on my diet for 2 and a half weeks but with that much food... I really don't think I will be able to control myself.

Any advise

I will be "throwing it away" for the day as I figure whatever damage I do I can make up for it in a week or so, so I'm not really that bothered about counting calories.
For me, Christmas Day is only 1 day, I don't work or have a social life so there is no pre- Christmas drinks/dinners to contend with and I won't be going back to my folks for left overs the next day like I have all the other years. I'm just going to enjoy it and maybe take advantage a little bit of being able to eat something that I haven't had for 12 months.

I have decided to still have a bit of everything but i wont over do it like i usually do. Will also try and have some salads with the meats and avoid to much gravy!! I wont be too worried about the fat content in the foods though- surely one day of bad eating is not going to cause me to gain more than 1kg and thats easy enough to lose.

I'm going to be sticking to my diet. Not because I'm afraid one day of free-for-all eating will make a huge difference to my weight loss, but because I'm finding it easier to avoid 'bad' food the longer I don't eat it. If I have potato chips, chocolate and lollies on Christmas I'm going to feel twice as tempted to have them on Boxing Day, then on New Years, then the next Friday, maybe during the weekend following that, oh what the hell a little a day won't hurt will it? Whoops I've eated an entire family pack of chips just like yesterday and the day before that.... AAAAAND back to my starting weight.

For me it's a slippery slope. The only way I can convince myself that I have to eat a healthy diet for the rest of my life is to actually eat a healthy diet for the rest of my life!

Mind you, I'm not advocating this for everyone. Some people can incorporate treat food into their diet and still lose weight. Sadly I'm not one of them. Through trial and error I've learned that this is the only way that works for me. I wish it were otherwise!

I think i'm with you on that one EWQ. Not with food, but with the excercise. I was feeling so good about the week befores 2.1kg drop, that I skipped 2-3 days of excercise, then had the xmas party. Only guilt tripped me back into my working out regime of every night, and I only just managed to maintain stable weight for the week.

For me:
no excercise - gain
half week excercise - maintain
full week excercise - loss

Pretty easy to remember. On that note though, it would be easy to allow myself the half week off and eat what i want for xmas... but I won't be doing that =)

Opps, just saw this thread after I started one in the diet talk section.

I'm not going to be throwing away my diet for Christmas. For breakfast i'll have low fat pancakes. Then we'll be having grilled salmon, prawns and salads and for dessert i'm having WW lemon cake. I won't be snacking on junk either.
I'm sure i'll get plenty of exercise running around with my son and pushing him on his new trike so I won't be exercising on Christmas day but hopefully boxing day i'll get out for a walk. :D

How did everyone go with their xmas dinners?

I managed to be good, we ate a lot of salads and cold meats, and i only had fruit salad for dessert at lunch time. I maintained the exact weight i was beforehand which im thrilled about!!

I tried hard to do the right thing and did manage to eat much smaller portions then i would have in the past but still managedto put on weight. Unfortunatly when your there camping for 3 days with someone else doing all the cooking its hard to avoid the bad foods (had bacon for breaky each day!)
