well done! It's a great feeling getting under that triple figure
35kg lost. (November 2005 - October 2006)
15kg gained again (as at October 2010).
Back to the drawing board - Let's do this thing!

Have been checking out the site the past few days and must admit I am well impressed with some of your weight loss achievements, well done.

And so have decided to use this forum as a motivational tool and as a way of permanently recording my adventure.

OK a little more about me, am mid 40's, male, married with 2 children 8 and 7 and work for myself.

I have always carried extra weight since my late teens but how can I best put this, I've always considered myself to be mentally fit as opposed to not always 100% physically fit. For example I did 3 years in the Army in the mid 1980s and still carried excess weight, have always had upper body strength and stamina which has seen me through some fairly harsh physical challenges.

Beer was obviously the main cause of most of my problems though I have got a sweet tooth for chocolate, sweets, cake, biscuits, ice cream etc. I also binge too much on savory and other snacks like crisps and bbq shapes etc ;_). I wouldn't necessarily call myself a big eater but I've obviously never been disciplined in my diet.

I have steadily increased weight over the years, I may have been 82 Kilos for example when I left the Army but found myself at around 89 Kilos by the early 90's. I did lose some weight *maybe 10 Kilos* around the mid 90's but by early 2000 I was up at around what I am now (just under 100 Kgs) and I peaked in the last year or so at just under 17 stone (107 Kgs in Aug/Sept)

Over the past few years I'd also been to the quacks and he had informed me I had high cholesterol and I always promised myself and him that I would do something about it. I went again mid Sept and this time I have resolved to finally do something about it.

Since then I have completely given away most of the rubbish in my diet, eating three meals (nothing particualrly special, still mainly what the family eats but eating healthier) Have also been excercising (an hour walk a day, fairly swiftly and with a massive hill in the middle which I go over twice which really makes me work.) I also do push ups, sit ups and swim laps of my pool.

Have set myself a target of reaching 90 Kilos by Christamas which will be a fairly big ask considering I was 107 Kg in mid Sept but I have done well to lose 8 Kg by last week. I hope I can reach my goal by Christmas and then lose the other 15 Kilos in three months or so in the new year - want to get to 75 Kilos - which I last remember being sometime during my basic training when I was 21 - my fighting weight as it were ;_) After Christmas I also plan to change from an hour walk to an hour run but haven't run for maybe fifteen years (since I broke my ankle in the early 90's) but don't want to rush into that until I'm ready.

I'm presently feeling great, to be honest my drinking beer days have mainly passed and I'm not really missing the choccies etc, its more a boredom thing I think, I just went to the fridge or pantry and grabbed a handful off choccy biccies for something to do ;_)

Anyway thats my story and plan, I hope also by putting it down here it will give me added incentive to achieve. I have always been goal oriented and love a challenge and what is better than to lose weight and get back into some kind of shape if for nobody else than for me, in so far as my health was starting to become an issue or will be in the next few years if I don't do something about it now.

Thanks for getting this far and best of luck with your own programmes.

Thanks Kate and have always been wary of what the kids have been eating to tell you the truth, even to the extent of sneaking their sweets and justifying it to myself that its doing them good ;_)

Seriously though just try to avoid temptaion for them and me by just not buying the stuff anymore and giving it them for special treats when we go out.
