James - The journey to a thinner me

Postby James » Sat May 31, 2008 6:03 pm

Just a record so that a long time down the track I can look back on this and see the results.
I have mentioned in another thread the diet plan that I'm following -
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14865

I'm booked into a private Dietition for Friday week to check over my diet plan and see what else she has to say. I am looking forward to that hour consultation just to get some information and to reassure me that I'm going ok.

I'm not going to use weigh myself. I think from everything I have read that it can be too defeatingly depressing as many things can cause weight to stay the same or change only a little, but you could still be losing weight though you'll feel bad because the scales don't say so. So I'm using measurements at the moment only and my wife has taken measurements of my neck, chest, waist, upper arms, forearms, thighs and calves and the end of each month from now on will be the only time those measurements are retaken.

I started my diet on the 27th of April 2008.

18th May 2008 I had lost 5" from my waist line

31st May 2008 I have lost a further 2" which takes me to a total of 7" off my waist.

LOL!!! I thought that too Helen! But I knew what you meant!

James, you're going great guns so far! I find that meauremants are more reassuring in terms of results. The scales can be so inconsistent at times it's hard to get a true reading. I remember when I first started my weight loss journey & I was exercising alot but 6 weeks into it the scales said that I'd only lost four kgs but after doing my measurements I had actually lost 24cms in total overall!

Good luck with it all! I'm sure the dietitian will be of great help to you!

Hi James,

Welcome to our wonderful weight loss community :D

I had a quick look at your daily energy intake. You are eating great whole foods but not enough of it. What you have to be aware of is the body will get used to this amount of food so when you need to lower your cal intake even more (which is too low for anyone regardless of their weight) when you get closer to your goal weight, it will be very hard and your body will hold on to any fat stores it can because it will think you are in famine.

Eating more wholesome foods really does help you lose weight. Its great that you are seeing a dietitian. I myself saw a sports dietitian and he told me I was eating too little and now I eat 2500 cals and my body is thankful for it. Not that you will need to eat that many, but I know your dietitian will tell you to eat more healthy snacks to increase your cal intake.

You've done well. Great losses :D

That's a great idea about not measuring your success on the scales. Scales can either make or break you. The best measure of success is seeing the centimeters lost and how big your clothes become and being able to go down sizes.

Keep up the great work.

Bella.

No more weighing, no more scales. My measurement is my success at health. It's an investment I make every single day. My priority: be healthy!

Lauren 51.5 kilos lost...that's awesome!

I like looking at peoples weight loss tickers, the only thing I think there missing is dates. It would be great to know how long it's taken people like yourself to have lost your weight.
