Hi All,

Thought this would be a good place to come and vent when I needed someone to listen.

So a bit about me. I'm 19, living with my boyfriend, currently at uni (for 2 more years :( ). I have to admit I have a really great life. The only thing that drags me down is my weight. I suppose I have always been quite big (was definelty the chubby girl in high school). Went I left school I lost about 8 kgs and was on such a high. I fit into really nice clothes, was not embarrased to go out etc. Gradually though I have been putting all the weight back on again. I have reached my heighest weight ever. I just weighed myself on new scales and I'm 71.2 not the 69 I weighed on Saturday. A real blow when I started but I've carried on. I would love to get down to 55. I am 160 cms so I think this is a healthy weight to aim for.

I think my biggest problem is giving up. I used to eat well all day, get home from work eat one biscuit and then say to myself 'oh no you've ruined you may as well eat the whole pack' (Damn mint slice for being so addictive). So I found this forum and I think it is the perfect place for me. I've only been going a few days but I already feel good about actually doing something about my problem not just making it worst. I am a bit worried about Christmas coming up and the large amounts of food and drink I usually consume. (Would love to hear your festive season tips).

I'm really looking forward to this journey and Can't wait to see the true me in the mirror.

I was sooooooooo craving that packet of chips in the vending machine at the train station today, but just think about these forums and give yourself a kick up the arse. You know what you want.

I read here a little while ago

'Nothing tastes as good as thin feels'

I did actually say that in my mind at the station today. I don't need the chips! I do however need to make myself happy.

So whatever this festive season brings, remember that when it's all done and dusted, you've only got the memories and feelings left. You're not going to remember how good the food tasted, but you will most deffinately remember a sense of accomplishment and self satisfaction if you stay strong and don't give in to temptation (too much) this christmas =)

Good luck & merry christmas :)

Hi Summer. Welcome to the forum! The best thing about this place is that whatever you're going through a dozen or so people here have already been there and conquered it. So you can get some terrific advice. Also, there are people who are still battling the same things you are so you can get a lot of support and commiserations as well! Above all, there are many, many ways to lose weight and many, many people here who have tried them. Some tips work for some people and not for others. So it's like a smorgasbord of helpful advice to pick and try as you go.

It sounds like you need a sweet treat when you get home and that could be what sparks your falling off the wagon. One tip from Weight Watchers is to divide your treats into individual portions in zip-lock bags. Put them away where you can't see them then allow yourself ONE bag per day. The more difficult you make it to go back for the other bikkies the less likely you are to eat the whole packet. Another idea is to substitute healthier choices. You could try the Freedom Foods 100 calorie bikkies that are available at the supermarkets. Another option that might seem insane on the surface but works for me: go cold turkey off ANY sweet things. Your taste buds are used to sugar, and the more you eat of it the more you crave it. If you give up for a couple of weeks you find you really don't crave sweet things as much. And when you do crave sweet things a piece of fruit or a couple of dried dates are enough to satisfy your taste buds because they have been weaned off the sugar taste.

Gordz's advice is good. Don't look at Christmas as an excuse to eat. Look at is as an excuse to nibble lightly on healthy snacks and socialise instead. Then you'll still have happy memories but also thinner thighs by the end of it! If alcohol is your problem at social gatherings (it's definitely mine!) then go for white wine spritzers. They're great at parties. Just mix equal parts of white wine with soda water. It means you don't get p1ssed as quickly (a good or a bad thing depending on your point of view) and you keep hydrated while drinking, practially eliminating hangovers the next day! Make sure there is a plate of crudites (assorted veggies sliced into sticks) and low-fat dips at social gatherings, even if you have to bring them yourself. Nibble on them instead of the chips. If you're going out for a meal fill up on a brothy soup or salad beforehand so you are less tempted to eat everything on the plate.

Above all, aim to lose the weight slowly. I've been a student for the last eight years (TAFE, undergrad with honours and now post-grad - glutton for punishment!) With all the pressure you're under expecting yourself to lose a kilo a week is a bit much. Take the opportunity to get a lot of exercise during the holidays but when semester is back just look at eating healthy foods and getting as much exercise as you can work into your schedule. Keeping yourself sane and healthy while studying is the most important thing!

Good luck. I look forward to reading about your weight loss journey here!

cheers,
Ali

So I am five days in and I already feel better. Not so bloated and more energy.

One thing I have really gotten into is walking. I walk everywhere. No more lifts for me!! I really cannot wait for weigh in. I wanna know what all my effort has achieved?

That's great Summer! It's really good to hear you're already feeling benefits from your new healthy lifestyle. I'm sure the scales will reflect all these good changes you're making too. Good luck!

I had a bit of a bad day today. I ate chocolate :(

Damn Christmas. I feel bad when someone offers some that they have bought. That is my little treat for the week though.

Weigh in tomorrow..........I'm so excited to see how I go. I'm not gonna go in expecting huge numbers but I reckon there will definetly be a loss. Will post loss tomorrow.

Weigh in was today. Good news. I am now 69.8. That is a loss of 1.4 kg. Is that a good loss for week one. i hope so. I think I could be stricter though. I seem to have slipped in far too much chocolate in the last few days.

1.4kg is fantastic! you should aim for between 500g and 1kg each week anything over is a fantastic effort if its between those numbers than its been a great week, if its under then hey! at least your still heading in the right direction so cant complain about that.

Each week you could lose very different amounts even if you do everything the same. You have started off with a great week so keep up the motivation.

Hi All,

Seems like ages since I have been on here. I have only just got back from my Christmas Break. Didn't have internet so did not have a chance to get on here. Jumped on the scales this morning expecting the worst. Ate and drank way way way way to much over christmas. Last week though I have been really careful though, and probably craving chocolate more than ever cos I got so used to it. 69.5 kg I lost another 400 grams. really happy with it. Gonna kick it up another gear though. I really want to wear a bikini by next summer (its embarassing being called summer and never going in the water. Everyone just assumes you will).
