Rams 75 reporting from Leeds

Postby Rams75 » Thu Jan 29, 2009 3:08 pm

Hi all

Firstly just gonna copy my initial into post

Hi guys

Went to the doctors early December for the results of some blood tests. Bad news !! Cholesterol - Sky High!! Blood sugar - verging on diabetes. He told me if I didnt get it together i had a 40% chance of a heart attack or stroke within 10 years

I am 45 and 6' 2" tall and weighed 126 kilos..

Since then apart from a decent Christmas dinner I have eaten very sensibly. Exercise I still arent doing but walk the dog!! However I have in the past played a lot of sports and will be getting back to it soon BECAUSE

I now weigh in at a svelte like 112 kilos

All I have done is to stop eating food I like - and eat cardboard and low fat cheese LOL

Not quite - but no takeaways - no red meat , bread or potatoes in the first few weeks but maybe a small portion once a month now. Plenty of veggies, salad, lots of beans - not heinz but natural beans if u follow me. Im not much of a drinker these days so I spose that makes it a little easier.

Today I weighed in at 111 kg.

Still keepin the eating under control and have added a LITTLE exercise.

There is a program to start running where u walk say 100 metres run 100 metres or walk 30 seconds run 30 seconds. So have started doing this with my dog.

Its currently 4-10 am over here. My wife gets up at 5-15 and as I work nights, on my nights off quite often Im up all night and will make her breakfast for her then walk the dog before climbing in to the pit. What ive done the last few days is take the dog to the supermarket car park - well lit and flattish - and run around it for 20-30 mins - well run and walk. Its hard work at the mo but I know if I stick with it Ill reap the benefits.

Will check in later and hope you are all doing well.

OK did the full 30 mins AND ran for five mins non stop!!!!!!!!!!

When I say ran - people were passing me that walked with the aid of frames - but it was definitely a gait that wasnt a walk!!!!!

I may catch the eyes of the national selectors. :P

Congrats on running for 30mins! You're doing better than me - I think I can do about 1 or 2 mins and then I need someone with a first-aid certificate to revive me.
Cheers,
Kate

Some great news today.

When I first went to the docs he told me my blood sugar was at 6.9 - diabetic is 7

Went to do the shopping early this am and the instore pharmacy was advertising free diabetes tests.

My blood sugar is now 4.9 :D

Weight wise I am now 110 kgs exactly. Very pleased with this as we have had snow in the UK for the last week or so - so its been difficult to get out and do anything much.

Weighed in today

Another kilo lost down to 109.

Loss is slowing down a bit now but I will be ramping up the exercise from now on.

Have started running again . Well sort of staggering around really. But the more i do it the easier its getting.

In conclusion feeling very positive.

Yeat another kilo lost and down to 108.

Passed a useful milestone. Here in the UK we still use stones and pounds for weight purposes. And I have passed the 17 stone mark :D

Hope everyone else is doing well.
