Hi,

This is for keeping track of my progress.
I'm doing the Couch to 5 Km program and so far enjoying it.

Start date 12/7/2010 with weight of 100.1kg. Mini goal is 90kg. Main goal is 80kg

My 3rd workout day of C25K is today. I'm looking forward to it after work :)

Along with the C25K program i'm also cutting out my main bad food: Hot chips.
I've also been making a concious effort to control my portion sizes in my meals. Apart from my hot chip addiction and usually low level of physical activity, I'm pretty healthy. I don't smoke, don't drink, don't take drugs etc

But I don't have a big build, so being 100kg is not good for me at all. Before I was married I was at about 84kg which was great. At one point I was around 78kg and I looked a bit sickly thin. My Doctor reckons I should be about 75kg for my height and age etc, but I think that's a bit drastic. So i'm aiming for 80kg. Which means I have to lose 20kg. Seems alot, but I've done it before so I can do it again.

My main motivation is my son. He's nearly 2 and last weekend he was running through the supermarket and I had to chase him. I got puffed out just doing that and it's only going to get worse. I don't want him to miss out on playing with his Dad because his Dad is too tired to move

My doctor prescribed me Duromine 30mg to help me move things along. Didn't really want to go down the medication path (and this is pretty expensive too) but if it helps me then I'll go for it. First day of it today.
I've already started noticing little differences since I cut out my junk food. For example today I went home to have lunch with my wife and my co-workers asked me to get them some maccas on my way back. I did this (got none for myself) but the main thing I noticed was the smell of the cooking oil almost made me sick (ordinarily I would like that smell).

One main thing I've noticed since starting to exercise regularly is my sleep is just crap. I would have thought I would sleep much better after exercising, but I'm finding myself waking up several times in the night. I go back to sleep, but when I get up in the morning I'm quite tired as I've had a broken sleep. Is this common when starting to exercise? I'm hoping it will pass. I know that people say that duromine effects sleep as well, so I'll see how that goes, but since taking my first tablet this morning I have so far not experienced any of the other symptoms most people say they had.

I'm really enjoying the C25K program though. While my weight hasn't really started to drop off much I can tell i'm getting fitter (my pedometer shows more calories burned and more distance travelled each time).

Picked out a reward for myself when I get to my goal weight too. A nice pin-striped suit. I've always wanted one but never had the figure for it (i want the stripes to go straight, not curved! haha).

Today is the start of week 3 of my exercise and weightloss plan. I weighed myself this morning and got 96.45kg. Pretty happy with that, although after a week on duromine 30mg it's not the massive drop that most people seem to have.
I'm still going with the C25K program, but doing it 4 times a week instead of 3. I think I will repeat the week 2 program this week as I don't think I'm quite ready to do the extended running that's in week 3.
Over the weekend I decided to do a massive cleanout of our garage and also helped my father in law shovel dirt over his yard for a few hours.

Saturday night I was hit by the insomnia (probably due to the duromine). I woke up at 2am on Sunday morning and ended up staying awake until around 9:30pm last night. I slept pretty well last night but my body is starting to ache a bit.

All in all, I'm so far pretty happy with my progress. I have been pushing myself a little hard on the exercise and am feeling it now, but it feels good and I'm excited about shedding the kilos.

SamBo, if your body (muscles) are aching, can I suggest 'creatine'. one teaspoon disolved in water or whatever you want after each intensive workout, then lots of drinking water until bed. Guarantee you'll wake up feeling 200% better than you would have. Basically creatine helps the synthesis between your muscles and helps them hang onto more water to help them heal and replensish themselves. The added water weight will work against you slightly on the scales, but weightloss isn't really about crunching numbers, it's about getting fit and losing fat, and keeping your body in good nick. This isn't an ad for creatine and i'm in no way affiliated, just thought I'd share with you my personal experience with it. You'll find all sorts of brands and flavours at your local chemist or supplement store

I slipped a little last night. I had meant to do my run, but I think I'm coming down with something (actually, now I know I am). I also ate a larger serving of dinner (mushroom risotto with loads of vegies on the side) and a softdrink last night and felt a bit guilty for that
My son was up most of the night coughing up mucus too, so I have had next to no sleep and feel like I have what he has. I felt a little bit better once I hopped on the scales and instead of seeing my weight go up (which I had expected) it was actually down a couple of hundred grams. I know your weight can fluctuate daily due to water retention etc, but still, for it to have gone down since Monday with no exercise it made me feel a bit better.

Hopefully this horrible chest infection or whatever it is passes soon so I can get back to the running. Right now I feel like I need to sleep... but no, stuck at work

Last week wasn't good for me. I didn't exercise much at all. I was sick from Wednesday night until Sunday afternoon too.
I still managed to lose a bit though. I'm now down to 95.1 kg, which means I am now half way to my mini goal and 1/4 of the way to my main goal! woo hoo! Pretty happy about that.

I've noticed that my pants and shirts are starting to feel a little looser on me. Once I get past my mini goal I will look at getting some new clothes.

Haven't update this for a while.
Last weekend was my wedding anniversary... I put on 1kg as a result :(

But now I am at 94.2kg. I haven't weighed this in years! Pretty happy with my progress lately, even though I've been a bit slack with the exercise

As I've had family visiting I've been pretty slack on my exercise. I had takeaway pizza on friday night and went out on saturday night.
My exercise for the weekend was walking around Sydney Zoo and pushing my son around in his pram (going uphill it's pretty tough since the pram and him and everything else we bring weighs around 30kg).
This morning I was pleased to see I still had a small loss. I'm now 93.6kg

Haven't updated for a while...
Finished my first script of Duromine last friday and didn't get the chance to go back to my doctor until yesterday after I finished work. Dr weighed me and said I'd lost 6kg (it's actually a little more than that, but it was the end of the day, I was full of water and wearing my heavy-ish work clothes). He was happy with my progress and gave me another month of the Duromine 30mg.
I was pretty happy I was able to maintain my weight for the 4 days that I was going without Duromine, especially since on sunday was my Nephew's 2nd b'day and lots of bad food was consumed :?
My doctor is a little strange. He measured my waist and said it hadn't changed much, yet all my pants are getting really loose on me now (my wife even asked me when I was planning on getting new pants). He also said that my goal weight should be under 76kg, which I also don't think is right. Last time I was under 80kg I looked sickly thin... but we'll see. Right now I'm focussing to getting below 90kg.

I've been clearing some room in my house recently so that I can buy a workout bench and actually have the space to use it. I've always had weak upper-body strength so need to work on that. Walking, running and using the cross-trainer are great for losing weight and strengthening my legs (I've always had big legs... so does my dad and I can see my 2 year old son has them too) but I need more work on my upper body.

If anyone can recommend any good upperbody workouts apart from pushups and barbell lifting it would be helpful :)

Another kg down! woo!
92.5kg this morning. Pretty happy with that. I'm almost at my mini goal.

I bought some exercise equipment on the weekend. There is a pack at Target right now that has a door-mount chinup bar, some pushup handles and a wheelie thing for $49. I struggle with the chin ups (lack of upper body strength there!) and the pushups and wheel are pretty brutal on me! but I'll keep going with them.
