Tegan's Trip To Total Terrificness

Postby Butterfly_Dawn » Sat Oct 09, 2010 10:23 am

So, apart from my kickarse topic name  .....

My issue is emotional eating so here I plan to record my overall progress, successes and slip ups. Not so much a food and exercise diary as a temptation record.

Cool!

So, this week, despite a couple of slip ups I managed to lose about 1kg, which is very good, let's hope that continues. I still struggle with night times and boredom but seem to have contained the supermarket chocolate bar habit and mostly have contained the uni thesis procrastination by muffin habit.

My worst offenders? Toast after dinner. Must start using that chewing gum more consistently.

Definitely try and have a tea, perhaps with a milk arrowroot instead of the toast after dinner! I buy those little WW Nestle Choc mousses and they satisfy a sugar craving also. Perhaps brushing your teeth after dinner could also work?

Oh don't suggest biscuits! I had to get hubby to keep his bikkies in a padlocked jar because I just couldn't resist! If I have one I have 10! I think brushing teeth is a good idea, or chewing gum. It's just a matter of actually DOING it. At the moment the prospect of a cuppa stops me having the gum or brushing the teeth... don't know how to get round that.

It just occurred to me that because I haven't been on here in a while, I'd better update everyone on what I've been up to.

So I'm NEARLY finished my PhD ( ).

I have also been getting into a lot of fun runs etc and this was the first year ever I've done anything like that officially. I've done:

2 mini triathlons (300m swim, 10km ride, 3km run - man I suck at swimming  ),
Kingston fun run (5km),
City to wrest point 7km,
Mother's day classic 8km run,
Mountain running festival 5km,
Ross 10km.

I also did the Bicycle NSW Commuter Challenge (it was Aus wide), and Abseiled the Gordon Dam (world's highest commercial abseil!). I'm planning to do the point to pinnacle in November, and am in a team to do the Bruny Island Ultra Marathon in December (? I think?) and anything else that comes up that I hear of! I unfortunately missed the Launceston 10 due to injury and will miss the Burnie 10 by being out of the state.

I've also been doing bootcamp run by a uni friend, stopped because I figured out I do more exercise if I ride to/from uni rather than drive then do bootcamp, but I still do the Saturday boxing sessions which are a good counterpoint to the cycling. AND I walk my ginormous hound.

So as you can see, I've been pretty busy! Loving it though.

Thanks miss viva! I used to see them as such a huge thing but I don't now. It's like "10km run? That's just an hour of exercise..." weird. :?

Well the latest news is I've given up coffee. I never used to drink it until this year and after having looked at the impact on weight loss I've kicked it again. So, back to rooibos and vanilla and green tea and mint full time. I also gave up alcohol earlier this year, so I now don't smoke, don't drink, don't drink coffee, don't do drugs.... I'm a walking teetotaler!! Funny thing was I went to the doctor yesterday to get a new prescription for my asthma meds and he said "so you're still a non smoker?" and then on the way out he says "And make sure you don't take up smoking". WTF :? Did I LOOK like I was about to run out of the doctor's surgery to the nearest shop and buy a pack of ciggies and start chain smoking my life away? Maybe it was the fact that I'd turned up on my bike with a weightloss.com.au t-shirt on that game him the impression that I wasn't interested in my health....

Weird, weird.

I also had a call from my nice (and free) personal trainer from the get healthy service and discovered that I had actually lost 3cm from my waist since the first call. I hadn't been tracking my measurements so it was nice to know that even though I've been up and down with the scales, something is moving in the right direction!

So yesterday was a bit of a complete flop. Rode to uni, rode up to the doctors and back, promptly ate a muffin, then a muesli bar in the arvo, and rode home. Ok so maybe not a complete flop, but I did have a muffin when I was only procrastinating, not even hungry. Oh well. Back to the grindstone! Speaking of procrastination...

Hello again! Just arrived back home from a week in Brisbane all refreshed and rejuvenated. Was pretty good overall, spent a lot of the time walking around and generally ate well (due to budgetary constraints mostly!). Had a few splurges, mostly on the last night where I ate such a rich dessert I actually did a bit of sick

Will wait to see at weigh in if the net effect was good or bad.

So I actually did fairly well away, came back and had lost another kg, so all in all not too bad considering the occasional big splurge.

Having a bad day today though, can't seem to stop eating!!!! GRRRRRR!! Probably because I have one of those sneaky background headaches. I seem to comfort eat when I have those :(

Time to get the gum out.

After an absolutely SHOCKING day, I have made myself a simple cabbage vegetable soup for dinner (hubby won't be home for dinner tonight so no complaints about soup 8) ) . After that I will have a slice or two of cantaloupe to satisfy a sweet craving and then into the chewing gum.

Yeah, if you have too much it can have a laxative effect. :? Haven't encountered it yet.

I have come to a conclusion that a major part of my weight loss plan is to:

FINISH MY THESIS!!!!!!

This procrastination/anxiety stuff is just an absolute bugger for me eating crap food. :(

Ooooohhhhhh.... there's another reason my eating has been off. Currently sitting at my uni desk being assailed by random cramps (you know the ones girls). Grumble grumble.

But I HAVE managed to keep the naughties to just one muffin so far today. Let's see if I can crank out some more paragraphs on my thesis in between popping the neurofen. Owwwwwww....... Grumble grumble, damn IUD...
