Thanks for that, Tegan. I don't know if I would spend that kind of do$h on a set of scales - I wonder how they could possibly work out all that information.

I did a search and came up with a site where it allows you to put in your waist, hips, neck, weight, height measurements and calculates body fat, lean body mass and BMI. Also gives you the amount by which you are overweight (which is not as much as I thought). If it is good to be in the single digits for body fat then it is a mammoth task ahead of me.

Body Mass Index: 44.3 kg/m2
Waist-to-Height ratio: 0.85
Percent Body Fat: 47.7%
Lean Body Mass: 76.7 kg

You are overweight by 64.2 kilograms (141.2 pounds)
Minimum caloric requirements: 2335 Calories per day
Limit your food intake to 1984 calories per day.
to lose 1.2 Kg per month.
Your diet should contain at least 90 grams of protein per day.

They use impedence measurements. They've got little metal strips that get an electrical signal after it's been pulsed through your body, works out any differences and works out what the proportions are from that. A whole bunch of boffins put a heap of brain power into it I'm sure.

Aaarrrggghhhhh!!! Ok, I've officially come to the conclusion that chocolate (or maybe just sugar?) is EVIL. EVIL EVIL EVIL stuff. Eery time I have just a little, suddenly it's like all my ability to make rational decisions go out the window for days and I'm back to having to be really really careful and controlled until it's out of my system again.

*sigh*

Today

7:00 -muesli
8:00 - 45min walk to uni from town
9:30 - carrot and hommous
then the day turned to censored
10:30 - 12? I think? biscuits
1:00 - orange poppyseed muffin
3:00 - 1c cantaloupe, yoghurt
4:00 - 45min walk back to town
7:00 - 1 baked spud with vege topings
8:30 - bowl cereal

WTF!!!!!!! GET A FLIPPING GRIP WOMAN!!!!!! At this rate I will definitely not have maintained that 3kg loss.

Right. As at tomorrow I am back to controlled eating, planned and with all the backup fail-safes. THEN when I'm back to normal I shall be avoiding sugar and treats over the Christmas period because there will be altogether too much of it around anyway. If I do have an occasional treat, I shall have to be on hyper alert for the next week.

Weigh in today:
84.6kg
32.2% fat
49.4% water
7.1% bone
33.4% muscle

So, managed to keep those 3kg's off, despite some less than impressive eating. I still can't explain it, and neither can my booty instructor who is as miffed as I was. Weird.

Hi Tegan

Is it normal for someone to have 50% water - when you work it out 42kg of water is 42litres - that's a massive amount of water, but I guess a lot of it is not free fluid probably bound up in cells and stuff.

The body is pretty amazing isn't it?

It does depend on your body fat percentage (fat has a lot of water in it as well). For my body fat, a healthy water percentage should be between 49 and 52% so actually my water percentage is only just ok. I'm prone to dehydration because I never drink anywhere near enough water.

And yeah, the body is made up of a heck of a lot of water!

Well well well, it has been tooooooo long. Been busy busy busy. And I've been making edible Christmas gifts and you all know how that ends up. One for the pressie, one for me, one for the pressie, one for me...
Ah well, I have been keeping up the exercise and I've finished baking now so hopefully things will be back to normal.
Will endeavor to keep up to date on here too.
Bruny Island Ultra Marathon on Saturday and I'll be helping drive the 12 seater team van WOOT! Looking forward to it.
