I think this is a great idea and I hate calorie counting so I will love finding something that will help me to do this and teach me as well. I am currently using my calander and ticks on it but I hide it when ever other people are around cause it has little dot points on it. I think I could come up with a few coloured stars to represent this and it still has meaning to me without having to rush to put the calander away when someone comes around
On the road to losing weight for the second time, hoping for 20kg off for Christmas and to make it a life change this time.

Good idea donna.. you could always just say the stars are to remind you of something, or that they represent that you had a good day.. or you just like stickers! :)

good luck!

Mandie I am sorry to post this here but I didnt know where else to do it. Is it true that our bodies have to have a certain amount of calories per day and if so what is the magic number. I know that people say in order to loose weight you must spend more calories that you take in but is there a minimum number that you must take in. I thought with your medical background you may be the best person to ask about this.

Lucky I saw this! Probably best to PM me if you want to make sure I see a message, but I saw this one, so it's all good :)

Recommended minimum is 1200 calories intake daily... but it's a bit of a contentious issue. Depends on your size and your level of activity really... try a site like CalorieKing to see what your calories should be? Another good guide is what you CAN do.. for example, if you are living on 1200 calories per day but find that you are hungry and light headed all the time, with zero energy, that might be too low for you and you should try upping it by 100 calories or so until you are comfortable.

On a "diet" that works, you should NOT be excessively hungry - you shouldn't eat until you are sickeningly full either! But you shouldn't be starving and thinking about eating all day - you will eventually crack and just binge, and that's not healthy at all!

Hey mandie

I was just poining maybe if you only dropped your calories by 500-750 you will lose more fat then lean muscle tissue. Because over time that lower intake can drastically harm your metabolism and harm you later in life due to less muscle tissue.

Anyway keep up the amazing progress, well done

I like this system, I may have to buy a calender!

I do have a little thing that I also am starting, I carry in my handbag with me almost everywhere a tiny little notebook. The first page has my weight loss goals (in kgs and what I want to be doing). the second page has financial goals. the third page has an exercise regime which because I am just starting has as the moment how many days per week I am walking to work from the train, which at the moment I increase every 3 weeks so I dont burn myself out and how many days I am swimming per week which increases by one every month at the moment. The next page has my times to beat in my walk, since it is approximately 2.5km walk and I want to always beat my best time.

So maybe with the two together I can do something.

Thanks for the tip.

Hey Mandie

I think I'll use the stars as motivators too and perhaps give myself a gift every 10 or 15 stars.

I have just started dieting, eating the Lite N Easy plan for lunch and dinner. I really enjoy the lunches, the dinners aren't quite as enjoyable.

I have started walking each day. 15 minutes before work, 45 minutes at lunch time and 50 minutes of a night time. From now on I'll give myself a star each week I walk 10,000 steps a day.

I am excited as I have lost 1.5 kg. my current weight is 69kgs and I have a goal weight of 58kgs.
I hope to reach 58kgs by February 2013. More stars!!

I'm feeling healthier from the diet and walking already although I'm often hungry. But less so as the days pass by.

It's great to have a forum to discuss weight loss, diet, exercise and ups and downs of meeting my goals.

Looking forward to hearing from other stars who are dieting. :)

Cheers
Colleen Colleen

All of my research has come to conclusion that women should eat minimum 1200 Calories and Men 1500-1800.

I eat under that, and I am trying to fix it.

Good luck with it all, I like that Star Idea too!
