I would rather you guys take longer and getting it right than do it quickly and find it all falling apart. 8)

The best of both worlds would be doing it right and doing it quickly.
I managed it that way but I had the advantage of stumbling onto a right way without having to go down a lot of blind alleys that you guys seemed to have done over the years. You guys are fighting off a lot of baggage that I didn't have to bother with, hence my lack of understanding and impatience sometimes. I keep thinking "just do it" and not considering your chains of 'ghosts of past failures' that play with your minds.

I so agree with you Kim, however I can see how the journey can cause frustration and impatience.
The problem isn't about "how long" it takes, but rather "how hard it is" and because some people are so brutally rigid in their change in behaviours (although admirable) this change can be very difficult to maintain.
That is why I always advocate "baby steps".....be kind to yourself; do the best you can today, and then try and repeat it tomorrow, and then the next day BUT if you do fall a little rather than beat yourself up (or worse, give up) learn from it, and move forward.
Boredom sets in when the diet and/or the exercise is deficient in variety, as you can lose motivation and give up.
I always try to mix things up as much as I can!!! I shock my system by keeping my body guessing "how much is she going to have today, and how hard is she going to exercise"??? Some days I eat more than normal, exercise twice as long, others completely nothing!!! But either way, I always make sure it balances out in the wash. And you know, in 18 months I've managed to have a loss almost EVERY week.
It's about being happy in what you're doing, staying focussed, and not losing sight of the fact that this is not TEMPORARY. This is NOT about getting into that "little black dress" for a special occasion, for me, it's about getting into ALL those lovely clothes and looking (and feeling) great EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!!!

That's very good going indeed. I only managed to lose every week until my 49th week...that week I neither gained or lost and the week after I gained 0.5kg! I was pretty cheesed off with that - as I had been pretty determined never to have a gain week. As it was I only had two more other gain weeks (week 56: 0.2kg and week 57: 1.0kg) before I reached 87kg off goal at week 60.

That's an interesting point you make about change. I think that's were many people go wrong. They start off too gun ho and run out of puff long before they get anywhere near finishing the race. Steady wins the race. I've just been watching the marathon and the commentators were making the point about a runner running his own race and not getting caught up with keeping to some other runner's race plan. I know for myself it took me ages before I started to run. I was in my low 80's before I started...and even then it was very cautiously because of my belly hernia. I was weighing in at 78.6kg before I managed to run 4km in one go...but better safer than sorry was my motto.

JPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!! Woo hoo.....the prodigal son has returned!!! :D So great to see you back, I've missed your masculine presence, though Kim has been great, "he's been there done that" you know??? I like to get a male's perspective on a journey still being travelled, but hopefully with his guidance WE can all get to the same place he's been hiding at for the last 2 years, at the bottom of the hill of Mount Maintenance!!!!

As for a little gain....pfffttt......so a little fall, but I've seen you do it before, when you set your mind to it, you're faster than a speeding bullet at getting back to where you last left off!!! Gonna give us girls a run for our money, I'll bet!!!

Well my fun times are mainly over for the rest of the year, though if will be in Bali in a months time ;)

It's going to take time to feel as though I'm into it properly so I'm loathe to make any promises in the meantime and for a few weeks it's just one day at a time.. But Day 1 is over and I've been on my first exercise walk for 5 weeks and tomorrow I go to the gym for the first time in about as long too so we'll see where we are at over the next few days..

How fickle!...but I'm the one with the Superman t-shirt and everything! Guess I really am yesterday's hero!

JP...sorry for giving you a hard time. :( It's just that I want it for you so bad. I hate seeing you go backwards. It's great that you make the ground back up again but I keep thinking how much more you would be in front if you hadn't slipped back.
My way of thinking is that the less time you spend losing weight; the less tired of the process you'll be. The firewalker only feels the pain if he stops to look at the scenery. Keeping your momentum going is important to keeping your motivation and success going.
Again I'm sorry...I want to be on your team not on your back. 8)

Kim

Hi Kim, only just reading these back posts now.. Tbh I was too disappointed in myself to read them previously and I feel as though it's not just me I have let down but the whole team..

Sure I have excuses, loads of them but now isn't really the time for me to dwell on them or the reasons why or the deeper issues I have with my boom bust weight loss reality.. Gonna leave it there at present but I got a whole lot of thinking to do as I endeavour regaining lost ground, yet again..

But hey, I'm happy enough so no no feeling sorry for me, any of you lot either ;)

Kim, both you and JP are our heroes!!! You're "da man" (on maintenance) and JP's "da man" (on a mission)!!!

Shelley's the femme fatale of the lot! She's sweet, honest and even with her relationship (and weight) roller-coaster ride, she has never snapped at anyone because of it!!!

As is JP, he's had his fair share of roller coaster rides (mostly due to holidays; and haven't we all, self included) but has been very dignified in his posts showing determination and true (dignified) character. 8)

People who "snap" at others in a public space show what they're made of!!!

Kim, I know you want only the best for each of us, and I know JP wasn't snapping at you (unlike some others) in the short time I've known him I've come to learn that HE is not like that!!!
So please don't misread his post, he's not having a dig, but rather he's reassuring you that all is okay, and most of all, he's aware that you're just looking out for him.
He knows that.....WE ALL DO!!

xx
Diva

Nah definately wasn't snapping, when I wrote that I honestly was just having a few weeks off and I did actually put a good week in.. Then it just all went to pot! I know when and why and I just allowed it to get worse and worse, I could see the weight creeping up week after week and just thought fark it! Will sort it on Aug 25th :|

Anyway it's behind me now and I really am like a tap sometimes, I can just turn it off! Have to get through the first week or so first..
