ATTENTION SA residents or people who've holidayed in SA

Postby shaz73 » Fri Feb 01, 2008 9:14 pm

Hello South Aussies!

I'm trying to convince my husband to go on holidays to SA at Easter. I've never been there before & we're on a tight budget. We have a 5 year old girl & 6 year old boy (as well as our baby boy) so I'm looking for somewhere that will appeal to them. I've been on the SA tourism web sites but I'm still having trouble convincing him.

Coober Pedy - "too far" (we'll be driving & taking the caravan)
Flinders Ranges - "too far"
Kangaroo Island - I REALLY want to go here! He thinks ferry will be "too expensive". :x

Can anyone suggest some family attractions? I thought I'd ask the locals where they can recommend.

Your help will be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Shaz

Barossa Valley and Victor Harbour are nice and inexpensive :) The Barossa is way north and Victor is way south.

You could try Yorke peninsula, i only went as far as Androssan there but i think theres a national park at the bottom of it which is suppose to be stunning.

Try this site http://www.southaustralia.com/

Might help. :D

I heard something on the radio the other day about $5.00 tickets for the ferry to KI. Check it out at the sealink website!

Thanks Kittykat.

I don't think we'll be going to KI somehow. :( I just looked up the sealink site. Will cost $193 one way & that doesn't include the caravan!!! :!:

I think I'll look into the peninsula's. And might work on hubby about Coober Pedy!! :P

I have a Business degree with Tourism as a major and live in SA - so I might be your gal!!

Having 3 young kids, I'd definately have to recommend Victor Harbor...beautiful beaches and great caravan parks. The adults can relax and the kids will love the beach and Granite Island where you can see all the fairy penguins!!

Great pubs to eat in as well :P

Also, Port Lincoln is nice...?? Spot of fishing anyone?!

KI is lovely, but not sure how things are over there after the massive fires they had??

I live in Adelaide as well. I would recommend victor harbour as well. Nice caravan parks down there and theres also greenhills adventure park. Granite island and they have night tours as well where you can see some penguins. I don't think it costs very much either. Also beaches and whale watching.
If i didn't live in Adelaide i think i would just stay in Adelaide. Glenelg caravan park or somewhere similar. Theres always the beach house ( used to be magic mountain), shopping, beaches. Just about everything you need around you. And victor harbour isnt that long a drive away you could still go down there and spend the day. I guess it just depends on your personal choices..

Hi where abouts in Victoria you coming from? And how long you going for? The Peninsula and Pt Lincoln might be that little too far... have you been right along the Great Ocean Road? If not thats spectacular... you could then cut into south eastern SA and take in Mt Gambier... years and years since I was last there but some beautiful countryside... then travel up to Victor Harbour and maybe into Adelaide if you haven't been... stop maybe down in Glenelg... then back via Murray Bridge and look in on the river area a bit? again depends how long you got but loads to do and see in SA... have fun :)
