do not open if sqiumish... these pics haven't been doctored... his ankle was broke in two places and his foot was hanging on by skin and tendons... he will probably never play again..

I feel so much for people break bones like that, as I did it myself last year - couldn't bring myself to look at the video of your poor soccer star...I smashed my ankle up badly from just slipping over, my partner and I were housesitting and he had gone off to work, I was going outside to feed the cat before I got ready for work and slipped on some wet lino just out the back door. My foot was hanging of my leg at an unnatural angle...still freaks me out to think about it! Anyway, I had to grit my teeth and drag myself inside , whilst cradling my ankle, to get to the phone and call my Mum. A painful (and expensive!) ambulance ride later I went into surgery and had a plate and eight screws inserted. The swelling was so bad I had to keep my ankle raised up for 6 weeks (sleeping on your back for six weeks is not fun!) and couldn't walk wihtout crutches until about a month ago...hence the loss of job and 20kg weight gain! I still have restricted movement, my physio was amazed I didn't have a more pronounced limp!

Thanks for regards to my teams striker Czarina... he has spoken now and is determined to make a comeback but it will be a slow process and l have a gut feeling he wont play to the same standard again if he plays at all...

Re your break... that sounds downright nasty... I fractured my ankle and had pins inserted back in 1996... believe it or not my mates and l got into an altercation with some bouncers on my pre stag night (the Friday night) and I ended up getting dragged down a couple of steps backward by two of the biggest geezers I'd seen in my life... l knew l was in trouble but was so drunk l managed to get a taxi home and still go to a major football game the next day  - my whole ankle had turned black and l was hobbling on it... beer numbed the pain of course and that night was my actual stag night (Saturday night)... we had to cancel the pub crawl planned and just stayed in a pub local to our flat in London...

The next day (Sunday) my ankle was like a balloon and one of my mates who had come over from Oz said I'd better go to the hospital as another guy we had known years earlier had ended up having his leg amputated after complications... so after another session at the pub  l got a taxi to the hospital... hobbled in (by this time l was walking on it lol)... they had one look at it and admitted me... took four days for them to dry me out lol (nah l'm kidding..) for the bruising to subside enough to operate but l still managed to hobble down the aisle on crutches on the Saturday 8)... Missus just shook her head lol and told me it had better not spoil the day... it didn't of course... by the end of the night l was again walking and dancing on my plastered foot... lucky we had put off our honeymoon until about a month later because of all our guests travelling from Oz and the plaster came off a couple of days before we went away...

Oh and the pictures were the worst part of the whole thing... not only did l have to stand around for an hour having the bloody things taken but l also had to somehow camoflauge my foot, l had this horrible blue plastic shoe thing over the plaster... when some of my wifes friends took their pictures in you could see it quite clearly and people who didnt know me were asking if l had a gammy leg  hehe anyway just to conclude the story l also sued the Roundhouse Nite Club in Leicester Square and got a nice compensation package off them... wasn't worth the ear bashing from the trouble and strife though

JP1, I wish I had an interesting story like yours behind my injury - booze and bouncers! Hell yeah! But no, I was completlely sober and slipped in a little puddle of water courtesy of an ancient malfunctioning water heater! At least you got compensation, with the cruddy public liability laws at the moment, I've been told I don't have a chance (but apparently ten years ago, I wouldn't have had a problem), so I had to cough up for a $1700 ambulance bill and lost my job to boot!

Czarina nope whatever the story it's not a pleasant experience and the lying around was the worst bit and hobbling around on crutches... l got my plaster off a week early because we were going away thank goodness for that it was driving me mad.. BTW that should have read Roadhouse Niteclub.. use to love that place but never went in again afterwards... maybe if l go back again I'll have to visit the scene of the crime
