Beijing 2008 Olympics

Postby Tarz » Wed Aug 06, 2008 2:31 pm

Well they start in just 2 days time, is anyone looking forward to the games?
I just want to watch the hockey and gymnastics. And as a bonus we get to have it on in the office all day and i can see the screen from my desk, WOOHOO.
Apparently they are predicting us to get 17-19 gold medals this year, do you think we can do it or will the smog fill our longs to much and slow our athletes down?
What sports are you looking forward to watching?
Whats your favorite thing about the olympics?

OMG...I'm a sports NUT!! I can't wait for the Olympics :P I was living in Scotland when the Commonwealth Games were here and they showed next to nothing....I was devastated!!

I love the swimming, tennis, gymnastics, diving, hockey, athletics....oh, just everything!! I'd watch and cheer and be all patriotic (I have the southern cross tattooed near my hip) if they were playing marbles!! I LOVE it!

I especially love the swimming relays...go Aussies GO!!!

I love the Olympics. It's the only time that I ever watch sport!

I like the gymnastics, and diving, and rowing, and athletics... and ladies beach volleyball   Oh, and the opening and closing ceremonies of course!

I like the fact that it's a chance for us to see a whole lot of different sports that would not otherwise have exposure. "Sport" on telly is normally just football, football and more football... god it's boring! Plus, we actually get to see WOMEN competing! Not muddy old men chasing balls around. Woo hoo. GO THE GIRLS!!

Thanks for the update, Tara! I am very envious of you being able to see the telly at work!

Where I work, we are not even allowed to access any news websites. So, can't even find out that way :( What a waste of time this work thing is!!

Well, unfortunately the Boomers lost to Argentina last night, so that means they won't be going for any medals....but Dave played well.

does anyone else think certain games should be removed from the olympics?

i think some should like:
-any team sport that has professional million dollar athletes like basketball, tennis etc.

Why, they're the best athletes in the country/world as well, who work and train just as hard as the others and are representing their country too who just happen to get paid well for it?

Even normal athletes make good money if not millions of dollars through endorsements and sponsorships alone.

I think stuff like BMX riding really doesn't seem like an Olympic sport but it's in there.
