Family - AARRGGHHH

Postby mumnbub » Fri Feb 13, 2009 1:26 pm

I have no idea what I am supposed to do and am getting really frustrated! Ok, will start from the beggining.

When I moved into this place my sister borrowed my fridge as she needed one for a while and I didnt. She then moved into a place with my cousin who owns this place and they were using the fridgetogether. My sister has moved out of the house they were sharing but my cousin still has the fridge.

I let her know ages ago that I would need my fridge when I moved and left it at that so she could make arrangements. I assumed she would deliver my fridge and take her very expensive fridge back to her place.

So when I did make the arrangments to move I let her know again that I need to have the fridge delivered at some stage and when was she planning on getting hers, thats when she said she was buying a new one and most probably her fridge would go as part of the sale on the house.

So my mum though of a solution, she has a small fridge which is suitable for me but they need a bigger one so we asked my cousin if we could work out a deal where she keeps my fridge, mum takes her fridge and I get mums fridge - personally i dont care that my fridge is worth more than mums, i just want a fridge but though it might be an issue for my cousin.

She said she would discuss it with her husband and let me know... days pass so I ask, she said that someone has a contract on the house and is considering the fridge so would let me know.... days pass and I find out the contract falls through so I ask... No, you can come and collect your fridge.

I have one week until I move and absolutly no possible way to collect a fridge from someone who lives on the other side of Brisbane! If I had of know I could have made arrangements last weekend but the only person with a ute will be away all this weekend. So I let her know that I cant collect it and need it by the time I move nextweek - have not heard back from her.

I get onto my sister seeing as she was the one who originally borrowed the fridge. She is already peeved at our cousin, she was the reason why she moved out and there are other issues going on so this problem just makes her even more pissed off. She lives even further away from me and lost her job so has no money so its even harder for her to do anything about it.

The only person I know with a tow bar on their car is my cousin who also owns a trailer- her father has it at the moment apparently though. She can afford to hire a trailer if need be and deliver it, or ask her father to do it for her.

I am lost at the moment- I need a fridge! Its one of those items you kinda need.

Morral of the story- dont lend to family!

That sounds like a tough situation. Could you sell the fridge on eBay? If you arrange it with your cousin you could have the buyer pick it up from her place. Then you can use that money to buy a second hand fridge when you move to your new place. While it's not very convenient for anyone it might be the cheapest way to go about it. Otherwise the only option I could think of would be to hire a ute for the day (if you drive) and go and pick the fridge up. Ask your cousins to pay for at least half of the ute hire since it's her inconsiderate faffing about that meant you had to rely on this option.

I hope it all works out for you!

There never had been an edit button. Whoever set up the forum likes our typo humiliations to stay on public record for all eternity.

I have to get off my bum and sell half of my existing crap on eBay before I bid on anything else. I can't buy anything extra until I have room for it!

At this rate selling the fridge on ebay may be my only option - either that or live on frozen foods until I can get it to my new place- have a deep freezer but not so great for milk or cheese lol.

I've seen an edit button at times as well. I think it depends on which section you are in.

I think there's an edit button available to all in the progress forums but nowhere else. People requested that of the admins ages ago.
Just keep moving! And don't be lazy...
