Drunken food

Postby Blackandwhite » Tue Sep 28, 2010 11:45 am

Hmmm I've forbidden myself to grab a sneaky maccas on the way home from a big night,

On the weekend I went to make a crepe instead when I got home, but because I suck at cooking, I didn't taste nice.
I had one bite and threw it out...

I don't drink any more, but the best food after booze that is healthy (resonably) and helps recover from the excess would be bananas and vegemite/promite on toast. Washed down by a berocca or other vitamin B supplement and plenty of water. Reason being the banana will give you some sugars/carbs to re-energise plus potassium that goes bye byes when you go hard on the booze. The vegemite/promite on toast is something relatively strightforward that won't be likely to turn the old stomach and it contains vitamin B that gets seriously depleted in the process of getting rid of the alcohol from the body. Alcohol is also a diuretic so you need to rehydrate, hence the water.

Then time, and only time, will get rid of the alcohol.

IMHO, if you've just been out sticking all that extra and empty alcoholic calories in your body, I'm not entirely sure that a maccas burger is that big a deal technically, but it is probably a good idea to get into the habit of avoiding junk food in general.

I tend to go to Subway and get a sandwich (six inch, whole wheat veggie delite) when all my friends are getting McDonalds- it fills me up/ helps sober me up just as well, and I don't feel so guilty :)

I don't drink anymore but when I did I usually got a veggie footlong from subway or a burger at Lord Of The Fries.

Yes! Lord of the Fries- a fav since moving to Melbourne. Back in Sydney I'd have to have a pie from Garlos in Coogee- well a pie and sausage roll. In fact I remember being "asked to leave" the premises on night, and the next morning my friend found a mashed up sausage roll in her handbag  !!! Pizza is a good one, Dominos puff pastry! And of course Maccas :)

I've given up binge drinking recently but it was my number 1 hobby for about 4 years.

Some healthier drinking snacks I would plan to have lying around in the event I got peckish (which was always) would include rice crackers like Seaweed sakatas with cottage cheese or grilled light Haloumi cheese (YUM!) or salsa tuna on cucumber slices

When I'm drunk I often find myself in hungry jacks, cannot resist it!
