Helping out for my graduation project

Postby Dutchie » Mon Nov 15, 2010 3:46 pm

Hi everyone!

I'm a Dutchie, living in Australia (Adelaide) for one year to graduate via an internship and backpacking. The graduation project involves doing some research.

If you are going to a gym / personal trainer or own a gym, could you please help me out by filling in a short survey? No field is required to fill in. We need approximate 25 people, so it would be great if you would be one of them!

The link is: http://www.stronger.com.au/survey/

Thanks!

The info page doesn't give sufficient detail. Things like the University it is supposedly being completed under and the ethics number (university studies using human data require one), research supervisor etc should be included.

I suspect this is a scam

15kg gained again (as at October 2010).

So I contacted the place where Dutchie is doing his graduation project and they say he is working there and it's legit. Up to you if you want to be involved.

Their response was:

He’s looking for gym goers, owners, anyone in that field. I’d call it market research, yes, as part of his university project. His field of study is informatics – basically web design in the context that he’s working here. His university is HAN in the Netherlands and I don’t know the name of his current project supervisor (it changed at some point), though my contact at his university has been Cees Landman.

His heart’s in the right place, but you’ll know more about whether it should be on WeightLoss.com.au or not. Will leave it to you to decide, but he is doing it solely for a uni project and won’t do anything dodgy with the data or anything.

So it looks to be legit, if not completely orthodox in presentation.

My apologies for not providing all the details in the first post.

University (international name): University of Applied Science
University (Dutch name): Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen (HAN)
Location: Arnhem (Netherlands)
Study: Communication and Multimedia Design (Informatics)
Project supervisor: Eric Holtman
Student name: Emiel Kwakkel

The Netherlands and the university do not have a Ethics Committee. As far as I know the Australian Code for the responsible Conduct of Research is linked and required for associated Australian university's.

A few questions in the survey are personal, but no question is required to fill in. If there are more questions I would be happy to answer them.

Greetings,

Emiel Kwakkel
