Ok, what the heck are sultanas? I've read them in a few posts & this inquiring mind would like to know what they are? Thanks in advance!

Sultanas, raisins and currants are 3 different things :) So I'm not sure what they'd call them in the US?!?!

My American sister-in-law says sultanas are closest to golden raisins (whatever THEY are).

I notice that my one of my favourite websites says the same thing. The site is called An Aussie in America and is quite amusing and helpful if you travel in both countries or are dealing with people in both countries check out http://www.aussieinamerica.com/language/net_dictionary.htm if you're interested in other translations :)

I should check it out because in the US they call petrol gas...so what do they call gas? You know the LPG sort of gas. I'm confused....it's bad enough that the names of things change in Australia depending on what state you live in! :D

Heck here in the state we call those raisins. So no more mystery, thanks to reckless and his kodak moment for me. Atleast now I know what they are, so yeah for me. Just for the record, yes we have those here in the USA, but we call them raisins.. Just so you know we also have have the golden raisins too, which are made from the green grapes and the normal raisins are from the purple grapes..... Mystery solved thanks again for clearing it up for me.

my husband is american and things can get so confusing when it comes to names of things.

He calls gas natural gas. But they don't tend to use it much there. Everything is electric.

He also had no idea what sultanas were.
