WOO HOO I think I have Gout (trying to do a dance)

She's lost the plot I can hear you saying but you don't know the relief I feel just to have someone give a name to why I have been feeling like crap for over 12 months. I can barely put one foot in front of the other, I have so much pain in my left foot, knee, elbow and right knee. I am just about living on painkillers.

Saw my GP yesterday arvo and he is now 90% sure I have Gout, had the blood test this morning so will know for sure next week.

Over the last 12 months I have been to Chiropractors, Phyisio's, Podiatrists, and Foot/Bone Specialists. Every time they see how overweight I am they don't look any further and just say if you lost some weight you would not have any problems.

Its great to hear that they know what is wrong with you Fay. :D I know how you feel with the doctors taking one look and saying "Its your weight" without even looking at other possibilities. :x

At least it is something that you can put your finger on, and do something about.

Judy :D

Thanks everyone, yes it is a relief. The Doctor has told me to drink 15mls of pure Fish Oil (yuck!!) with some orange juice in a shot glass every day till I see him next week. Fish Oil is the most fastest acting natural anti-inflammatory there is. Then he will workout what I can take as I can't take anti-inflammatories because it upsets the stomach

This is a website that explains what Gout is.

my uncle has gout- much to do with alcoholism

Yes Kate you are right but I can asure you not in this case, though I would say it could drive you to drink.

I hope it is treatable for you as it has been going on for quite awhile now....

So do I Ally

im sure u arent an alco fay :P but i can understand why it would send u to the drinkies! hehe.

my uncle explained it in one of his drunken states that its some sort of acid? his foot swells up real bad and he lives in a two story house and somedays is confined to upstairs cos he cant get down the stairs and up again. he had to take a few drugs for it and sometimes had to get it syringed? or maybe that is from another of his ailments from drinking :?:

I think he is right Kate, Scott's mother can't eat anything acidy as it flares it up.....

Fay, do you have to eat the fish oil after food?? I was just curious as there has been some talk on here about the capsule making people sick if they take it on an empty stomach and was wodering if the fish oil drink would have the same effect....sorry for being a treacle beak

I think strawberries can have a negative effect on gout too.

That is great Fay that they know what the problem is and can work towards getting you better.

That's ok Ally :) I have to take the Fish OIl before my main meal and have to make sure it doesn't touch the lips on the way down or you will be tasting fish all night, DH might think he's sleeping along side a fish.

I can feel a difference in my foot all ready but my right knee is a real problem. That's the one I Injured in a car accident and have no kneecap, I also hurt it again a couple of years ago in a fall. At the moment it is so swollen and is in constant pain. I can hardly bend it or walk on it.
