Yeah Kate a lot of offices do that.. my dad actually has to supply a whole feast of things - chips, drinks, cakes, etc etc cos they have a big spread. How rude!!!

at micks work they buy the person a cake of their own choosing. id chuck a sicky on my birthday if my work place was stingy like that! hehe.

when i was working at preschool we had a birthday chart and names were drawn out of a hat and matched up to another staff member where you have to buy that person a $5 cake and a $10 gift. that way everyone got something and you only had to do it once a year. it made us all feel very special- even though cake is a common occurence in preschools and god help us if there are two or three kids born on the same day! three lots of 'taste testing'

what sucks is that they used to do a collection for each person and give them a pressie, so the cake buying was kind of worth it.

But the end of last year they decided it was too hard and scrapped the present thing. but the morning tea thing was still on.

I only started in October so I think I am being jipped!!

People usually spend like $60 on pies and sausage rolls for everyone but I am getting a couple of Woolies mudcakes and if they don't like it they can give me a raise!!

Thats a good point! I should!! hahaha

When I worked at Telstra we used to bring in a cake, just for our team, like 12 people. And the manager would get a card and get everyone to sign it. That was nice.

This place seems to think we are all made of money!

Happy Birthday, Nikki :D

I know lots of places where people take their own cakes for a celebration... but I mostly work as a contractor in Government ... so there's no way I'd want my tax dollar buying birthday cakes, leaving cakes, got engaged cakes, promotion cakes etc.

I am very lucky - we get a cake, card and gift and if it is a "0" birthday we usually have a morning or afternoon tea and everyone brings in a plate to share!!
