What the!??!?
Why does Adelaide not have Aldi!?!?! That is SO cheap!!! Strawberries here at the moment are $3.99+, they've been on specially rarely for $2.99.
Although it doesn't REALLY matter to me right now as I can't have fruit *sulks*

You should try them Kate. Our average weekly bill for 4 is around the $100 mark. That includes dog/cat food and 90% of dry goods and dairy. I do not buy meat, fruit/veg or bread (can get cheaper and better locally) from aldi. They also have other items - got a great guitar for $70!

I am pretty fussy about some things too - so end up doing a woolies shop every couple of weeks to stock up on those items. But many of the Aldi items are just as good as other brand names....

No, I don't have shares......

Is alot of stuff from Aldi from overseas though? I try and buy Aussie stuff as much as possible, especially with fruit and veg...if there fruit n veggies are aussie then I'll start shopping there as there is one not far from me!

I think Aldi is German? So not many local products - mostly imported stuff. You have to pay cash or they sting you for a credit card charge. You have to pack your own groceries, queues are enormous... but damn, they are sooo cheap!!!

The other benefit of Aldi is that forces price competition between the supermarkets. It's known that suburbs where there's an Aldi, the nearby Coles and Safeway will have cheaper prices.
Just keep moving! And don't be lazy...

Thanks Milkyway! I knew they were german owned...I have been in one ages ago and they are alot different to the normal supermarkets!

I might go check them out today though, I mean its impossible to buy everything aussie made and owned but I do try my best as it makes me feel a bit better!

Milkyway, I never pay cash and Ive never been charged any fee  ...I think it depends on which day/time you go as to the amount of ppl (like saturday mornings are nuts, so i usually go friday morning or wednesdays) a lot of the canned/ long life stuff is german and imported, but all the dairy/meats/vegies/fruit (perishable stuff) is made/grown here in aus, they have signs on the walls that say they are made from Local Ingredients, and 99% australian made etc....The packing your own bag thing is a big pain in the butt though! You get used to it though....and I used to work at safeway on register, so I pack a mean grocery bag! LOL
