which job should I choose

Postby electrongirl » Fri Jul 13, 2007 11:53 am

I have been looking for a job and went for 3 interviews yesterday (I'm knackered now!!) and all of them are the same money and fairly the same in terms of job description.

1st: Is furtherist away from home. People are very nice, job sounds interesting. Average length of emplyment is 12 years! They aren't super strict and like people to have fun at work. May be some overtime, but rarely.

2nd: Close to home. I didn't really like the lady who interviewed me, who would be my boss. Apparently they have a heap of work to catch up on so the first few months might have overtime.

3rd: Close to home. Beautiful offices and I would have my own office. People seem a little stuffy. No overtime.

I am leaning towards the first one. Mainly for the work environment.

But the other 2 are within 15 mins drive of home....

I think I will be offered at least 2 if not all 3...

any thoughts?

I have had many jobs, usually interesting and left of field. They have allowed me to move and travel all over the place!

If you felt at all uncomfortable with a person who would be supervising and working closely with you - DONT GO THERE

If you see yourself in the same place and doing that job in 5 years time - go for the first one. If you know the job is for a short time (before you move on or up) take the one offering the overtime and nice office.

You are lucky to have so much choice!

Let us know what you decide.....

It depends what's important to you. Whether it's the work environment, or the benefits of being close to home. Is the extra travel time going to be worth it?

I'm working in a pretty ordinary job at the moment (boring, not satisfying, etc, etc), but I'm sticking with it because the benefits of extremely high pay, job security and being close to home are important to me also

How great to have the choice! Most people struggle to get even one offer

well I decided to take the first one.

The lady I went through at the agency made them increase their offer so I took it!!!

Its only about 30 mins travelling time so I don't mind.

I'd prefer to get along with the people than to feel out of place, been there done that!!

Kate,

Not that great at the moment. I have been a bit off track lately as the job I did have was affecting me alot. I wasn't very happy and was making up for it with food!!

I am rejoining WW tomorrow though, now that I will have the extra income I think I deserve it!!
